Came here for a Sunday Carvery. They are only open on Sundays and you do need to make a reservation.
Atmosphere was a bit rowdy but that is not something you can predict although the table allocations could have been done differently to separate families from adult-only groups and couples.
Opted for the beef and pork, plus a sausage in bacon, and helped myself to potatoes, veg and gravy. Sadly not one component of the plate was up to the standard I was expecting. Meat was very tough and overdone, potatoes were ok although the mash was underdone and lumpy. Gravy was watery and bland. Overall, I've had a lot better for the same if not less outlay than the £15.95 they charge per adult.
The only saving grace for me was that the staff were polite and we weren't kept waiting.
The pub and surrounding village were very pretty and leafy. A gem - we will bring friends here when people visit. Service was friendly, meals arrived quickly. Lamb and steak could have been a little more tender, but we enjoyed our meals. Looking forward to coming back.
Lovely Sunday carvery. Managed to squeeze us in even though we didn't book. Just spotted the signs on the main road and dropped in. Great value and filled us right up. Nice beer and friendly staff.
Birthday Celebrations
I visited with a group of 23 on Friday evening mixture of adults & children of different ages, We booked & preordered our food as it was a large group.
Everyone loved the cosy atmosphere with the fire and the food was amazing everyone commented on the food quality and how big the portions were! Highly recommend for families, couples or a group of friends you will have a fantastic evening. Will definitely be back would check on Google and Facebook as it’s not open everyday which is understandable but does state all opening times on these sites and on the automatic reply on messenger!
Love this place so much! Always a great atmosphere, always great food and super service. Highly recommend the Red Lion Burger - home made and piled high with bacon and cheese . All clean plates for 3 adults and 2 kids tonight ????. Home made pie thick with chunky beef was amazing.
Great
We stumbled on this place whilst looking for a bite to eat on a Saturday lunch time and are so glad we did.
Tucked away off the beaten track, this is a proper county village pub.
We were quickly seated and presented with a typical pub lunch menu with all the favourites as well as a few more adventurous dishes.
My son has the posh fish finger sandwich, my wife a roast beef sandwich and I had the ploughman’s. I must admit I laughed when the sandwiches arrived as they were a lot more than just a simple sandwich. Then my ploughman’s arrived which was huge.
So a light Saturday lunch became a full on Saturday dinner. There was no room for desert.
All the food was excellent and was great value as well.
So this place is now well and truly bookmarked and we will be back. Highly recommended
We were wedding guests visiting to see our friends get married! All of the team were very friendly and welcoming as well as helpful and professional! One of the ladies went a little further by helping us find a local taxi service to help us get back to the hotel we were stopping at! As a wedding venue it was lovely!!
Superb food & drinks. Very friendly staff. Well worth a visit
