Nice food and great well kept real ales. Really friendly landlord and landlady. Don't be put off by the look of the pub on the outside it is a nice relaxing good value establishment.
What a gem of a pub! Came off the A303 looking for something to eat and drink and stumbled across this lovely quaint little place. Friendly and attentive staff, lovely old building, fantastic food and wonderful local beer, what more can you ask! This place will be a regular stopping off point for us in the future! Superb!
Popped in after visiting stourhead and had a lovely roast. The gentleman at the bar was very friendly and attentive at ordering. On serving our food we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Will revisit stourhead in the summer and we will visit again!
A homely, dog-friendly pub with its own car park serving decent food with a friendly welcome. Just 1 mile from Stourhead, it makes an excellent place for lunch and a pint after your walk, with far less waiting than the often very busy Spread Eagle.
An excellent traditional freehouse tucked away in the Somerset countryside. A good selection of really well kept local real ales and ciders, basic but tasty food and a warm welcome and great hospitality. Visit regularly with groups from work and always well looked after.
We had a lovely Sunday roast which we decided at the last minute as other places were booked up. Saw the Red Lion and the owners were very accommodating and very polite and welcoming. I would recommend a visit there. We will be going again. Thank you all.
This is a pleasant rural pub near to Stourhead and Stourton. It is surrounded by fields but sadly there are no good views from inside the pub. It was a busy Saturday lunchtime and the landlord was doing a brilliant job attending to everyone. The food was good pub food and also good value.
Not family friendly at all!
My two beautifully behaved girls, my mother & I went here for lunch yesterday. On arrival to a completely empty pub, and before drinks or food were ordered, we were frogmarched to the chilly ‘backroom’ and even there not allowed to sit at the table of choice with cushions on the chairs. Incidentally the food boards were also in the main pub so we had to walk back and forth, back and forth, back & forth to discuss meal options with the children before ordering.
The landlord was cold & bossy.
Whilst waiting for food my daughter (silently) walked around to the empty main area (not even at the bar) to look for a book or games of some kind and the landlines bristled in and asked me to go and get her. She was looking at a picture of a dog by the fire when I went in. Hardly being troublesome. At this point I politely told the landlord that he was making us feel very uncomfortable & it would be fine to be child free but I thought he should state it if he didn’t want children in. whereupon he, quite forcefully, made us feel more ostracised by saying it was illegal for her to walk around the pub. Utter rubbish - the are NO laws pertaining to that.
Food was decent, lady serving was most pleasant, but don’t take children into this unfriendly environment not matter how well behaved they are!
