Friendly staff but that’s the only Positive unfortunately. One night was enough! Arguing and carrying ons in pub until midnight even though quiet time is 10pm til 7am. Room and bathroom was tiny dirty and in need of serious updating and repair. Clearly no investment in the business. Checked out and saw room opposite was occupied by someone who had just crashed there door held open by a shoe and a pair of discarded undies on the floor. Pretty unpleasant stay really. I would suggest that recent reviews on Booking etc are fabricated. My advice would be to find somewhere better in Hexam
Perfect for a short solo stay! I travelled up for a race along Hadrian's wall so needed somewhere local to stay the night before, and The Queen's Arms fit the bill perfectly. Check-in (and back out) was completely self-service - I didn't actually see any staff during my entire stay, but their numbers were provided had I needed any assistance. The room was light and airy, and had all the basic facilities plus handy extras like a fridge and microwave. The bed was comfy, and while I'd seen some negative reviews about noise from the pub downstairs, I always sleep in earplugs and once these were in I wasn't disturbed at all, despite being there on a busy Saturday night. For the price and convenient location (<10mins from Hexham in the car), this was the ideal basecamp for my visit to the area.
Awful.
Paid extra for a small single room with a tiny television and it's own private access (far more then a double room, with double bed and a large flat screen tv) upon arrival I discovered I had been given a tiny "budget" room. Room was filthy, dusty, toilet was covered in somebody else's urine and the shower came with generous amounts of black mold.
No refund either whole or partial was offered.
AVOID!
Room was great. Facilities and supplies in the room were excellent .
Barmaid sorted a early morning taxi for me.
Very quiet, never heard anyone.
A bit far out though.
Top 10 accommodation for me.
Picked this place as it was affordable and close to both Hexham, Hadrian's Wall, and Stonehaugh. Vikki, who runs the place, is very nice as is everyone who works here.
Keep in mind this is an old building. There are no air vents, no circulation, etc and it can get very stuffy in the bedrooms. Opening the windows helps, but bugs do find out easy access.
Also to keep in mind is this is a working pub. Great beer, pool, and fun locals. But it also means you may hear the people downstairs while you try to sleep.
They have a little "general store" to purchase foodstuffs for both you and your 4 legged friends.
The room comes with coffee, tea, and milk. A fridge with a tiny freezer bracket and a good microwave. The rooms vary in size, bed size, bathtub vs shower, etc but all have a private bath en suite.
I was in room 6 for a few days and it was pleasant, however that particular room has a glass window near the ceiling in the bathroom that lets in all the light from the stairwell on the other side of the wall. It needs to be painted or at least covered. A simple enough thing.
Trying to sleep while people were smoking and playing music just outside and downstairs in their courtyard was a bit frustrating, and I did have to buy a small fan, but it was very pleasant overall!
Stayed for two nights over a weekend, due to an excursion into nearby-ish Newcastle for the Magic Weekend.
For the price (£90), the room was superb. Basic but very much advertised as such, but you get a decent tv, fridge, microwave and kettle; plenty of space for bags etc., only thing lacking is a wardrobe, but that's minor (for me anyway).
It's above a pub though which has pros and cons, obviously on peak times it'll be busy downstairs, but it's a pub, go down and have a pint ????.
All in all, pleasant surprise for the price. Also handily located as you're almost on Hadrian's Wall, and half an hour from Newcastle. Just bear in mind Acomb is a small-ish village with not an awful lot in it.
We stayed one night to break up our journey between the Lakes and Kielder Water. I think the rooms are new as everything inside looks recently renovated. Our room was exceptionally comfortable. Large comfortable bed and the place is dog friendly. We were a bit put off when we arrived as externally it looks run down but very glad we stayed. They obviously haven't got round to painting externally yet. For the comfort of the hotel this was great value for money.
We were attending a party in Acomb so stayed at this pub. If you don't mind staying in pubs then this place is fine. The room was OK but a bit dusty, the towel rail was hanging on by a thread and the shower door came away. However the single beds were comfy enough.||||Keith the host was fine but there was no cooked breakfast available at the time because of a kitchen canopy falling off the ceiling into the hob. Tea, toast and jam was sufficient!||||It's used by Hadrian's Wall walkers so one can share blister stories.
