Pork shoulder and pork ribs we ordered were looking good, but they had the same taste, they were different only because of sauce. It is like the chef used the same method of cooking pork, like roasting or braising, and then just added different sauce. We expected that dishes should be unique in the menu of the restaurant from Michelin guide, giving the customer as much experience as possible. Baked hot bread from the oven to accompany pork dishes would be nice too, not just simple toasts. The place was also very crowded and noisy, obviously not for family dinning.
It's crowded, what means good food.
Staff is nice, and the menu brings dishes with the suggestion of pairing wine.
My friends and I decided to go for pork cuts, considering the place's name, and got it all good. Check the pictures.
I'd be back...
The staff and food here were both excellent. Everyone checked in on us periodically during our meal, making sure everything was to satisfaction.
We had great experience sitting on the bar facing the kitchen. Watching the food getting prepared was so much fun to watch. The flavor and texture balance of each plate was very well thought out.
The tuna tartar was one of our favorites that we ordered on the fly just from the presentation. The cracker with the lime on the tuna along with pistachios was a perfect mix of crunchy, tangy, and saltiness in a single bite!
Wow what an amazing dining experience! We were lucky enough to get spots at the bar in front of the kitchen on a packed Friday night and the show was impressive. Seeing this crew sling out amazing dish after another was a real treat. We tried the tuna tartare, dry aged pork and the duck. Everything was perfectly balanced and delicious. Portions were also very generous. My only regret is that we were way too full to grab dessert but hopefully we can return another time for that! Cocktails and service was also on point. This is an easy recommendation for those in the Chicago area.
The food at Purple Pig was generally good but seemed overpriced. The prosciutto-wrapped dates were a standout among the appetizers, and I particularly enjoyed the squid ink Chitarra and ricotta gnocchi as entrees. However, the portion sizes were quite small, and you'd need to order 2-3 dishes per person to feel satisfied from the meal.
While our service was great and friendly, the restaurant was incredibly cramped and noisy when we visited at 7 pm on a weeknight, so definitely not an ideal spot if you’re looking for a quiet and intimate dinner. Overall, while the food was decent, I didn’t feel it offered the best value given the price and dining environment.
My first evening in downtown Chicago and I was looking for something a little bit different. A quick search, and I found the purple pig restaurant at the top of my list I mean, come on, purple and pig in the same sentence. This already had me intrigued, even though it was dinner time on Thursday evening, and I found the place to be a little tight, I quickly weeded at the bar. This was perfect since it was just me. I wasn’t super hungry so I didn’t wanna go too crazy but I had seen others rave about the milk braised pork shoulder so that’s what I went after. When they delivered the pork shoulder, moments after I ordered, I realized they delivered it with a spoon. A spoon? I wasn’t sure what to think but being as adventurous as I was, I use this phone to dig into the pork shoulder. The pork shoulder fell apart. I knew I was in for a treat! although I wasn’t super hungry, there was no way I was going to let this pork shoulder go to waste and I cleared my plate. The restaurant also has a very nice selection of wines, but I’m not a wine drinker so I won’t speak on that subject. I don’t usually visit the same place twice during the visit, but I might make a trip back to try the pork belly. Only time will tell! Definitely a great place to choose if you’re in the area.
Wow! The Purple Pig is one of the most unique restaurants I’ve had the chance to dine in. While the ambiance is quite loud and a bit crowded, the attentiveness and recommendations from our server Angela made it all worth it! The chicken on the kebabs was so juicy and tender, the gnocchi just melted in your mouth, and the cheesecake special was amazing paired with strawberry ice cream and orange zest. 10/10 would recommend, there is something here for everybody!!
Hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago that’s well deserving of its Michelin bib award. Literally every single dish we ordered was perfect and unique. The crispy chicken, for example, was served in a delicious coconut jus with subtle flavors that will keep you wondering how the heck they cooked everything so perfectly!
Reservations are recommended as this spot gets pretty busy, but the service was quick despite the dining room being so busy.
I can’t wait to come back here and try everything else on their menu.
