Best KPortal Reviews

We went in just as The Prospect opened at 12.15. Ordered haddock, chips and mushy peas.
Given they advertise as ‘classic fish and chips’ we were disappointed that both the fish and chips were not fresh and not prepared on site.
The fish and chips were shop bought - most likely from a cash and carry. The fish was NOT fresh. The chips were fake. The mushy peas were microwaved.
I really don’t understand why a fish and chip shop cannot be bothered to cook their own food.
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. And over priced.
I’ll mention the price first as it the first thing you see. Yeah it’s a little pricey but you’re at the coast and have to expect premium rates for these locations, just let me add it was worth every penny. The service was spot on from placing the order to bringing our food to the table the staff were very friendly. The seating area upstairs was nice and we managed to get by the window which was a bonus on a hot day plus take in the busy vibe of the entrance to Sidmouth high st. Now the important bit, the food! Cod and chips for my partner £12.95, 2 jumbo sausage in batter and chips with salad for me £9.95 with a side of curry sauce £1.50. The chips were exactly what you want, I nice chunky chip that wasn’t greasy, the perfect chip. The sausage and cod were both amazing! Batter was fresh and fluffy, no grease what so ever. ‘Best cod ever’ my partner said. The curry sauce was a fair size portion for the price with a fruity raisin flavour. All the condiments you’d want on the table including bottles of ketchup, brown sauce and Mayo none of these little sachets. I would definitely recommend a visit when your in Sidmouth, I think it will be our go to chippy when we’re in the area.
I had the dirty fries and they were so have to say pretty awful. The chips were definitely frozen and not proper fish and chip shop chips. The cheese was congealed cheddar and the bacon was like rubber and not little crispy but which is what dirty fries should be. I wouldn’t mind if they were cheap and cheerful but they were also very expensive. ????‍♂️
Waited for what seemed like ages for a member of staff to come to the front counter and then proceeded to be seated upstairs in the 'eat-in' section. Very drab/tired looking tables/chairs/decor.......
We were a large family party and ordered the traditional cod & chips, chicken nuggets & chips and curry sauce with accompanying drinks of water and apple juice cartons.......
Drinks were very expensive....a small carton of apple juice £2.50 as was the bottle of water.....
The food........well it was pretty bland both in taste and presentation.....the chips were definitely pre-cut frozen oven type and the fish was like a piece of cod from a bulk buy frozen cod range.....
The portion sizes varied with one plate having literally a handful of chips on it! When we requested additional chips we were asked to produce proof that the chip portion was inadequate, which we did and the young lady reluctantly had to agree and provided further chips!
Overall not a very good experience, way too overpriced food with a poor service, would not recommend.......I had to provide a star to leave the review.
Fish was decent, although one of the fish was missing the chips.
Chips seemed like they were cooked from frozen and were dry.
We did not feel we got good value for the £36.50 we paid. We had 2 x adult cod and chips plus 1 x child cod and chips and 1 x fruit juice carton, plus tap water. The price included an eat in charge, which we took as it was a cold day outside. But the seating downstairs was quite crampt and upstairs was dark and tired looking (we chose to sit downstairs as better views). The chips were oven chips and portion sizes small. If wanting fish and chips I suggest others try the places further in to town as better value, and then enjoy the sea views on a walk later, which I think is what you pay for here! The only positive really was service was quick, but we were first to order at 12pm opening time.
Visited today and ordered 2 x fish and chips with 1 Porton of curry sauce and a drink 40.00 and it had to be thrown away it was awful. Oven chips tasted strange they had been refried but there was no disguising the foul taste. Threw some at the seagull and it didn't partake either. Honestly shocked how awful it was
Visited here on a Sunday, when it was blowing a hooley. From a really warm welcome through to the excellent cod, chips and mushy peas it was excellent. The cod was delicious, flaky with a light crispy batter and served with lemon wedges. The chips were the best chippy chips we've ever had and were accompanied by steaming hot mushy peas. Service was great too, with a lovely welcome, spotless cutlery and complimentary tartar sauce. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a great meal.
