We went for a quick shared lunch, my wife and I shared a shrimp plate they had fried and coleslaw. The food cost was a little on the high side, especially since dishes are served on foam and cardboard, but the portions were generous. One plate and two drinks cost with tip was $30. The atmosphere, food and music is what I’ve experienced in Louisiana. We did not go into the bar area…at least this time.
Visited here with some friends on a night out because we were hungry! This place hit the spot. It has upstairs and downstairs seating, with the upstairs being more of a food counter casual place and the downstairs being a bar with slot machines, more seating, and food. It was unclear that you should order food downstairs if you wanted to sit there or how the food ordering worked exactly when we first arrived. If you eat upstairs, you order at the counter. If you eat downstairs, a waiter will come to your table. It was a bit hard to find seating as well. No one was playing the slot machines while we were there but some people were playing pool and darts. The PO boy was delicious. I got the oyster po boy and I loved it. I would recommend going here to try the tasty food. A man also gave the whole bar free shots which was nice.
The Po'Boy Shop and Basement Bar offers a truly unique dining experience. Upon entering the main floor, you can place your order for a delicious meal. The limited seating on this level caters well to small parties. However, the real charm lies downstairs, where a dive bar concept awaits with ample seating. The friendly servers enhance the overall experience.
For my main course, I opted for the shrimp po'boy meal with fries. Unable to resist temptation, I also ordered a serving of a gumbo and jambalaya, all of which were exceptionally delightful! To top off the, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try the bourbon bread pudding- a must try sweet treat!
The location is right off Clairmont in a shopping strip with other neighboring restaurants, so there's ample amount of free parking to ease the stress of street or having to park inside a deck. I'm happy to have finally tried this place!
We placed a pickup order here for a late-night dinner and were not disappointed.
Our order consisted of wings, a shrimp poboy, fries, and crawfish pies.
Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection, but the crawfish pies were out of this world! I wasn’t even able to stop myself from taking a few bites before I pulled my camera out.
If you’re looking for great southern food in Decatur, this is definitely the spot for it. 10/10, highly recommended!
No complaints here. The food was decent and it’s your typical bar scene. I only had a chicken ceasar salad and it was very good and flavorful. The beer is better than the cocktails. Asked for a tequila lemon drop and idk what I received but I drank it. ????????
Amazing food, super fun bar. Always a good time here and even if the bar wasn't as fun I would still come back for the amazing shrimp Po Boys
Exceeded expectations!! First time trying po boy and loved it. Sides were all great and atmosphere fun. Huge range of drinks and the cocktails good value. Had to get a souvenir cup to take back to Oz. Pool tables, dart boards and slots, plus dress up props for those who want to shout ‘we’re tourists!’ Hope to back one day
First time here, Went in Sunday afternoon after watching the Falcons lose,..(a friend's suggestion) lol ???? When we walked in we we greeted by a friendly cashier, she asked us if it was here or to go, it was for dine in, they had about 2 high tops that seats 4 people, We were looking for our friend who said he was there but we did not see him. She told us that we could be seated in the "basement bar" which was right to our left. We we went downstairs and boy was I blow away! It's a very New Orleans theme dive bar!! They had plenty of seating, pool tables, arcade games, and plenty of TVs to watch football games on! And there was our friend!! Sitting patiently waiting on us!
Our server greeted us ans we ordered some apps. Fried pickles, gator bites, and cheese dip. He got us waters, and I hear the hurricanes are really good there.
Food came out pretty quickly and we ordered our meals. I decided on the catfish po'boy fully dressed (lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo) w a small fry for and additional fee. The others had the red beans and rice, gumbo, and I believe the crawfish platter.
The gator bites were really tender and delicious, the pickles were breaded very nicely and had a tang that I like to them
My po'boy was delicious!! (Fried of course) the bread wasn't too hard it had the right amount of crunch to it. I did taste the red beans and rice and gumbo (which was made from a dark roux fyi) Everything tastes delicious and had the right amount of seasonings to it. The food runner had forgotten the fries when he brought everything out, we just reminded our server ( we were also in the middle of a shift change, which explains why we didn't have anyone to check on us for a while) and they were quickly brought to our table.
I also like the fact that they have handled card readers, so u can pay for your food right at the table in oppose to the server taking your card.
Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. It's a hidden gem, that I never would have gone to with out the recommendation!
