Best KPortal Reviews

Having walked 12km from Hope Cove to Salcombe we were looking forward to the prospect of enjoying fish and chips by the harbour. Unfortunately, for our £32 (!) for 2 cod and chip dinners, we were served: soggy cod, oven chips and watery mushy peas. We live miles from the coast and have had never had worse fish and chips in terms of quality and value for money.
The fish was in a puddle of fat in the box when i opened it, and was luke warm and too greasy
The most expensive fish and chips I have ever had. Definitely ripping everyone off
The fork they give you was tiny so made eating it difficult and unpleasant and virtually impossible for the mushy peas
Be aware there is a 2 speed queue, some locals ordered about 10 minutes after I did but they got their order way before I did…
It’s telling that there are no comments back from the owner to the reviews = they don’t care…..
Good food, well cooked, no issues.
Yes, the cod prices are eye-watering, but
the portions are a good size, the food is cooked well; we had none of the problems reported in other reviews.
No complaints :-)
Went to get fish and chips, then saw price....£12.50 for a single piece of cod, just cod, no chips for that. Absolutely ridiculous pricing which is stated to be set at market value! Drove to Kingsbridge (10 minutes away). They charged £6.90 for a piece of cod. How can a tiny takeaway charge such high prices? After reading the other reviews here about quality of food I think we had a near miss.
Worst fish and chips we have ever had!! Such a disappointment and a shame that Salcombe doesn’t have a good fish & chips takeaway, as you would expect!
We ignored the other reviews and regretted trying it. The worst fish and chips I've ever had, whilst also being the most expensive. The chips were totally soggy and the cod was tiny and chewy for £12. They claim that it's this price is because of high market prices, but this is a totally blatant lie as, although market prices have risen slightly, the amount of cod served to us couldn't have possibly cost them more than £2 at the local market. This place is a pathetic excuse for a fish and chip shop and probably exists only by profiteering from visitors to Salcombe. Avoid at all costs.
Over £35 for 3 child's fish and chips, a single fish and chips plus 2 peas. Singularly the most overpriced chip shop I have ever been to. This wouldn't be so bad if the chips were not frozen ones and the fish had been cooked properly. The fish was underdone and the portions were not huge. They are the only chippy that does takeaway in Salcombe so they must feel they can serve rubbish and charge what they want. Their loss, we wont ever buy from there again. For the price charged we could have sat in any one of the local pubs and had a decent meal. I would suggest anyone visiting Salcombe does the same.
Luckily, the 3 out of 5 reviews prevented us from ordering the fish. If the chips alone were anything to go by, then I'm glad we did.
Resembling and tasting more like dry oven chips and I think, cooked from frozen, this was the smallest serving I've ever seen from a fish and chip shop.
I'm shocked that such an affluent town as Salcombe, does not have a good quality fish and chip shop? What's going on here?!! Very odd indeed. I guess locals must go further afield or use the local hotel restaurants and pubs, where you can definitely find fish and chips cooked properly.
Poor.
