The Pier has a great location next to the harbour with sea views from the terrace. We enjoyed a really good lunch despite the staff being two down and under a lot of pressure. Menu has a good range of fish, burgers, sandwiches and some other pub classics. Not a huge vegetarian choice but the veggie burgers we tried were good and the chips top notch.
Overwhelmed by the customer service here. We both had the swordfish which was absolutely delicious and so fresh! Chef came out of the kitchen (who I imagine is also the owner) and was very welcoming and made us feel so at home. We will definitely come back if we are in the area. Staff can't do enough for you :)
5th October 2023. 17:30.
Walking past The Pier Brewery, I see, on the board outside, Swordfish, I haven't eaten swordfish for a long time. We get a warm welcome, and find a table, order taken, we wait in anticipation. Two plates with large swordfish steaks on mashed potato and a salad garnish. Absolutely lovely, and would return there again, maybe to try something else from the menu, or just for the swordfish.
Excellent value, great people and atmosphere.
Many thanks.
We have eaten twice here this week and honestly the food is fab. We had the Cod best cod ever. The Butterfly Chicken was very nice and the Gammon really good. Nice portion sizes and good prices. Can't fault it. The staff fab esp Kelly the Landlady she went above and beyond to make sure my Grandson was accommodated to making him a lovely hot chocolate with a straw ???? and cucumber on his child sausage meal which was just right size for him. Nothing seemed to much trouble and we really enjoyed our evenings here. I like the fact you can take dogs in and little kids play area. Been coming Ilfracombe for 50 years for holidays and this would be my go to place to eat without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you all xx
Staff are kind, service is a bit slow (but this a chilled place), the pub itself has nice welcoming interior, including stove, the rear deck overlooks the sea at the back. Food (lunch) wasn’t very good, their chef was not in that day, small amount of dry, stale sliced baguette and small weird salad with pickled onions and gherkins in it, dressed crab was nice. So we gave gentle feedback about lunch and they were very kind about it and reimbursed us.
Was down for a couple days midweek between the May bank holidays.
It wasn’t very busy, the bar person was in a bit of a dither because her sister had surprised her from Australia and she admitted she had forgotten to take our order. This really wasn’t a problem though and she apologised on a number of occasions, bless her.
I digress the food was good, himself had his favourite lasagna, chips and garlic bread he throughly enjoy his, I had the burger, onion ring, blue cheese sauce and chips and again I enjoyed mine. On the way out, we had another apology.
I've eaten here a few times, and never been disappointed. Cod and Chips is the best in town. Came here Sunday for a roast for the first time. It was amazing. Vegetable selection was really good. I had the vege Leek and Cheese option, and I honestly have never had anything so good. Great value for money, service is great and the food is phenomenal.
Great food. Good portions. Friendly staff who checked on gluten free options (which there are a lot of) would recommend
Accessible and family friendly areas
We had lundy cod, steak & ale pie, lamb burger (gluten free option) nice and hot and we all enjoyed
