Oh my goodness! I can’t even describe the awesomeness that is this pasty. It was gluten and dairy free and it was so magnificent that I bought two! She even had a gluten and dairy free chocolate cake!!! The new owner (as of almost two weeks ago, I think?) is amazing and the company and customers that were there were all so lovely! Thank you for being so accommodating!!
Alas, not the best pasties. The pasties we had, 2 vegetable ones and a bacon, cheese and leek, were soft and none too hot, and when eating in took a long time to arrive. Coffee was good though so a third star!
Absolutely loved my time here! The new owner is so great, she's super friendly and really accommodating. The shop now does gluten free and vegan food! I had a choice from sandwiches, a pasty and cake! Somewhere not just serving jacket potato for us coeliacs! I had a gluten free pasty, my first in 6 years, it was soooo good! My partner had a panini and I must say I looked so nice! The lady said they will be introducing gluten free toasties so can't wait for those to hit the menu! Definitely will be coming back here, probably my weekly treat I think????
The sign downstairs saying there are harbour views upstairs is a bit misleading, as there's only one table near the small window, cracking views from that one I bet...
The staff were a bit out of order to one of their own when they made a mistake. Rather than take her aside and have a quiet word, they humiliated her in front of a lot of customers, when all she was doing was trying to please the customer she was dealing with.
The cream tea was nice though.
Jacket Potatoes overpriced and under-filled. Most ridiculous salad garnish I have ever seen in 35 years of catering. Not surprised the cafe was quiet. The gross profit must be around 90%. Would recommend going elsewhere. Oh yes, harbour views from on table only.........
Red Velvet is delicious. Since we were the last customers, we got three large beef Cornish Pasty for free. Ate and drank lots of things and paid a fair price. Great scenery upstairs is a plus.
Me and my family absolutely hated this place. At first we see it and think it looks good so we go in for lunch and have pastys. The pastys were okay but not as good as your normal bakery. When I asked for my drink there was a oily substance that I had to wipe off with a tissue, I know that's not a big deal but still. We go upstairs since all the tables have crumbs on and find one table by work that's happening in the ONLY toilet and because they were doing work they made horrible drill noises that wasn't very nice to hear during your meal. Then a waitress comes up to us and nearly gave us someone else's order. We shan't be coming back again.
Plus point: Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, lovely views if you are lucky enough to have a window seat, selection of ?homemade cakes - the jaffacake sponge cake was delicious.
Down side: Not family friendly as review suggests. We visited with two well behaved boys (2+3) however the cafe was so quiet and tables so close together we were very conscious of speaking in anything other than a whisper. Toddlers are not great at whispering. Very short of space for pushchair (we left ours in car as boys good walkers). No idea where toilets were as we didn't use facilities. Did however watch a man struggle to get downstairs on crutches so can imagine toilets either down or upstairs.
Hot chocolate was lovely, not too hot but quite pricy. We ordered 2 pasties, one large, one medium. Big hike in price for eating in and large pasty was only around 20p more than medium. Cold drinks are from cans.
There was a wait for the pasties, which was fine as they were freshly baked. The pastry was lovely however the filling was sparce. The large was not very big and only marginally bigger than the medium. They have HP sauce though, so we can forgive this a little.
The potato and leek soup was Ok, a little on the cold side but the bread roll was fresh so can't complain.
While we were happy to take shelter inside from the wind and rain the room was so hot it felt like summer again. Ok if you don't mind being overly warm, I don't, my husband does.
We had 2 flavoured waters, one coke, 1 hot choc, 2 pasties, 1 soup, 1 slice of cake and paid around £25. Not too bad, but not great either.
Would we come again? Would probably try somewhere else first however, without children and with a seat by the window I would be quite happy to return.
