So Glad this place is still here after so many years! While a continued reputation of great food used to nearly be a guarantee of a place staying in business for years, sadly now a days that's not always enough. It was probably 10 years since my last visit and the food was as good if not better than I remembered! Andrews Apple pancake is out of this world, especially with ice cream!! It's a Dutch pancake- an upside-down skillet bake so lots of sweet cinnamon goop- no syrup needed (or wanted). I'm definitely going back in the next couple weeks. Check them out!
The bacon was great. My pancakes not so much. I should have sent them back as they had a weird smell. The eggs are heart friendly. The Texas potatoes were great and well seasoned. Our server was nice but didn't keep up on the refills. I would give them another chance since others in our party enjoyed the food.
My friend took me out for breakfast for my birthday. Our waitress, Liz, helped me feel very special.
And the pecan pancakes were absolutely perfect.
Thank you all for a lovely Experience.
We have gone here for well over 20 years. The food has always been consistently well made and really quite amazing! Their pancakes, crepes, and everything are just amazingly good. The service is kind, and never do you have an empty cup of coffee or water. The interior is a bit dated, but once you taste the food and get that excellent service, it just doesn't matter. We will continue to come here for their tremendous dishes and great service. Make sure you try the German pancakes with bananas.
I've been visiting the Original Pancake House since I was a child with my grandparents. It has been a place of fond memories, offering some of the best breakfast in Indianapolis. Their Dutch baby pancake, with its powdered sugar, bananas, and lemon, is an unmatched favorite. However, my recent visit left me frustrated and disappointed.
Arriving at 2:05 PM on a Sunday, with closing time at 3 PM, we assumed it would be fine to have a quick meal. We were seated and handed menus, and chose a spot outside. It took over 10 minutes to get our drinks, after the server initially promised to return promptly. Another staff member eventually brought us waters while our server managed other tables' bills. When she finally took our order, we knew the Dutch baby pancake required extra time to prepare, but we were okay with that. Our bill reached over $80 as my sister and I ordered a variety of dishes.
However, our meal took over 30 minutes to arrive, coming just before 3 PM. With only a few minutes left before closing, we ate as quickly as possible. The server then notified us that they were closing in three minutes, handing us to-go boxes when our plates were still hot. This felt unnecessary, especially given the delay in service. We had been prepared to order as soon as we arrived, but the server delayed, resulting in our rushed meal. If the restaurant was serious about closing promptly at 3 PM, it would have been far better to remind us of the closing time upon arrival or at the table, instead of waiting until we had just been handed our hot food after the server wasted time attending to other tables.
As local restaurant owners ourselves, we believe the situation could have been handled better. Had we arrived at 2:45 PM, a rush would have been understandable. However, we had plenty of time to order and eat had the service been more prompt. The experience left a sour taste, which was disappointing given my history with this place. Improved communication or common sense about closing times would have gone a long way in ensuring a better dining experience.
A local go-to weekend brunch spot always good and the service is excellent. For you carnivore, if you don’t order the bacon, you’re missing the point of dining here.
Service was friendly and prompt atmosphere was ok. My issues were with the food. The bacon cheese omelette was huge but looked like it had been baked in a bowl and had that dry overcooked egg texture and taste. Also the pancakes cannot stand alone without syrup. I am a diabetic so typically eat my pancakes with just butter, these were not possible to do that. Their coffee was good. And to top it all off for a bacon omelette that came with a side of three pancakes it was $22 plus tip.
Delicious! I got an egg white omelet and it was ridiculously huge. Easily 2 full servings. Very light and fluffy. Perfect.
