I went to Scott's steakhouse last night. The service was very good all though the restaurant wasn't very busy.
I personally wouldn't recommend going here, I went for a mid week set menu 3 courses £21 which is a good price.
For starters I ordered BBQ chicken wings, the wings were no different from what you would get in weather spoons, just plain chicken wings completely covered in BBQ sauce, not marinated and cooked fresh like you would expect.
For a main, I ordered the 8 Oz sirloin, the steak was very average at best and over cooked and the chips were frozen chips.
For a main I had a chocolate brownie which was pretty standard.
I personally wouldn't recommend going here you could go weather spoons and it would be no different, I would expect more from a restaurant claiming to be a steakhouse.
Really enjoyed our meal yesterday. I always enjoy the food there. There’s just something lacking though? The staff are good. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe the music needs to be a little louder? Obviously not blaring. It just doesn’t have the atmosphere. A little like a dining hall. The feeling that you want to talk really quietly and not laugh too loud?Which is a shame as it’s a great building and everything else is good.
Great service from friendly staff. Wide choice on menu. Excellent piece of steak, cooked as requested. Good calamari starter, NOT disguised by massive coating of crumbs. Nice waffle for dessert. Will definitely make return visit, soon.
Must have been a bad chef night looking at the other reviews. I booked a table of seven. The starters were about 40 minute wait. The main course took another hour. Food wasn’t up to the standard I expected looking at previous reviews. The place was empty apart from my party of 7 so i can’t imagine what would have happened if there were other customers. The two individuals serving were very helpful in trying to cover up the totally unacceptable delay in food delivery. Requested the manager and clearly stated my disappointment. I can only hope this was a disaster of a nightmare service. I need to be persuaded to return after a near £300 spend with a group of friends. I look forward to any response from The Old Bell.
Went here for first time Valentine’s Day mmmmmm! Had rump steak with a jacket spud was really really nice , we then came back in the followin Friday then Sunday. Was a great roast dinner! I had turkey was soooo nice, please keep it up
Was recommended by a friend after looking for a good place for steak - it didn't disappoint! We head two courses each off the set menu and the portions were generous and the steaks spot on! No room for dessert unfortunately but would definitely go again. Staff were very friendly and the restaurant was nicely set up for social distancing.
We visited The Old Bell on Friday 9th October on a recommendation from a friend. Unfortunately we will not be going back. We had a lovely welcome from Lucy who showed us to our table, we was hoping the pub would be warm and cosy as it was wet and 7 degrees outside, but the log fire was unlit and the pub was not very warm. We ordered our drinks and starters and waited for half an hour my daughter’s order of Calamari and my husband Ribs then Lucy came over another 10 minutes later and asked us what sauce did we want on the ribs! Eventually the starters were served and both were good. About 40 minutes later our mains were served. The chips were greasy and I think they had been cooked and reheated, my burger was just about cooked in the middle and well cooked on the outside, the blue cheese dressing was forgotten so after mentioning it and about 10 minutes later I was given a slice of blue cheese and a jug of blue cheese sauce! My burger bun was hard, and my daughter’s onion rings cold and greasy. My husband ordered a second pint of Amstel but the barrel had run out and they didn’t have another one, out of the six beer taps they only had one available Corona. We didn’t stay for desert or coffee as my daughter and I were getting colder. The only positive from our visit was poor Lucy, who was trying to serve drinks, take orders, deliver food, clear tables and keep the customers happy!! She clearly needed some assistance and done a great job.
We didn’t stay in the hotel but booked a table after seeing they had changed direction with their food and knew the new chef could really cook having eaten his food before. We weren’t disappointed. ||The steak was cooked perfectly for my husband and his knife just went through like butter. It was full of flavour and melted in his mouth. I had vegetarian lasagne which I have to say was the best vegetarian meal I have eaten out for a very long time.||The bar staff were so helpful and friendly and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. The tables are far apart and there are sanitiser stations.||||We will definitely be coming back again!||||Well done The Old Bell!
