Wow! Good food. All home cooked style with really fresh ingredients. Good place to enjoy a country style Scottish meal. A good find on a relatively desolate road running along Loch Ness. Can get crowded especially during the tourist season as they are right next to a tour facility down the road.
Exclusive dinning when they only book up to 8 dinners at a time and 4 of us took the whole table, it was luxury. Food were great too without being over priced. Run by a lovely husband and wife team. It is a real hidden gem. Canal view was fab, watching joggers struggle pass while we stuffed ourselves with no guilt!
The real Scottish food! I think most of dishes are quite salty and the taste is not rich but I understand that Scottish food is taste like this. So if you are not like ascottish food, I don’t recommend this restaurant. If you would like to eat a local tase, this place is a good choice. The beef is quite tough but all seafood dish is great! I recommend “Pan fried Halibut” and “Cranachan”.
With only one big table to welcome guests, this boat restaurant (and hotel) must be a well kept secret. We came across it on our way to NC500 and we've so happy we did. The food was excellent (possibly the best Salmon Chowder ever?) and onwers were very welcoming. I'm sure on the 3 days when it doesn't rain in Scotland you'll be able to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful canal view. You can even bring your own wine, what more can you ask for?
Lovely meal. Friendly hosts. A little out of town but worth the drive. I had the seafood medely which was really good. The only tiny criticism would be I'd have preferred the Langoistine to be hot. Other than that it was lovely. The accompanying veg were very tasty. Especially the carrots ????
The sweet was called "Scotch Mist" . This was a mix of meringues, cream, toasted oatmeal and plenty of Whisky. This was also very tasty.
I would happily go back.
My husband and I stopped here after our adventure at Urquhart Castle and it was the best decision of our day! With Gabby’s delicious cooking and Gus’ company you can not go wrong stopping here. If you’re looking for some fantastic local home cooking you should stop here! Gus can’t make espresso but he can make a quick pot of yummy coffee!
Great olé place on the side of the road serving authentic dishes. Had the venison as well as the salmon soup and my partner had a bean soup. Ordered the mushroom appetizer which was delish. Food was priced right and if I may say it was the best venison I have had. Portions are pretty big so make sure you bring yer appetite or take it away with you. No gainy taste associated with venison, you could have passed it for beef. Highly recommend Oakwood.
The senior gentleman was the highlight of our experience. He was so funny and pleasant after being seated for a while.
The salmon chowder was superb, hearty and not too fishy.
The haggis with Chicken breasts was yummy, and the chicken and red wine sauce goes well the haggis.
The sides of Vege was so good, came in generous portion. Do come early or risk being turned down as it gets fully booked in the evenings.
