This place is fantastic. The food was delicious and the service was great. The grounds are beautiful. Each room is appointed differently, which is cool. They have a nice variety of craft beer on draft. The wine selection looked pretty good too. I saw plenty of kids, so it obvious they don't mind families dining here. If I make it back to this area, I will definitely come back here.
I like the atmosphere there. For some reason I was expecting time traveling in food, but it didn’t. The onion soup was cold when it brought to us, and my meat was overcooked so I changed to Jambalaya. The Jambalaya was good. My husband’s turkey pot pie is better than my dish. The best dish you MUST get here was the dessert, the bread pudding!
We ate here for the late lunch after we explored the mansion and plantation.
They seemed busy especially on weekend event days but luckily we made a reservation online beforehand just in case.
We ordered the most popular jambalaya, the beef fricassee and the bread pudding with ice cream for dessert.
The employees were nice.
Their jambalaya was really good. Spicy and had a number of different proteins in it like shrimp, sausage, and chicken. I would highly recommend getting this if it is your first visit.
The beef fricassee was good as well but was not as good as the jambalaya! But we particularly like spicy food so that maybe some bias in this review.
The bread pudding was ok nothing to write home about. Maybe the apple pie would have been better choice.
We would like to come back to this restaurant just for the tasty jambalaya.
Very, very, very slow service but everything else was good. We had to wait and look for our waiter for refills and took forever for him to get us the check also.
Crab cake was excellent, one of the best crab cakes that I've had.
A little shop which is attached was a fun place for eye shopping, it costs a little too much for my pocket.
After visiting the "Mount Vernon Museum," this restaurant is a relaxing oasis. The ambiance is soothing and calming, and we enjoyed the American Colonial-themed decor.
This highlight of the restaurant is that the produce, salad, etc. came directly from George Washington's personal garden. The salad was so crisp and fresh.
However, we personal were not a fan of the "Peanut Soup" since it lacked flavor, and it was not savory (Perhaps, the original 1700s recipe..?). It tasted like a hot thick peanut butter soup.
Overall, we had a blast at this tavern! It is definitely worth the visit to take a break from George Washington.
The family and I ate here on a Wednesday and then again on Sunday for brunch (pics attached). We had reservations as recommended by the webisght. We were immediately sat for both breakfast and dinner. We arrived 15 min early for breakfast, which was before opening time, and people were already waiting to go in. When walking in, you can definitely feel the rustic nature of the building. Which doesn't bother me at all but is worth mentioning because you know the wall has some history there. Our server immediately created us and presented our menus and water. For dinner, we ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, kids' chicken strips, wild mushroom Flatbread (super salty), and the bisket potpie. Everything was average but worth the price. For brunch (pic attached), we ordered the kids' waffle, kids' French toast, Eggs Benedict, and BLY sandwich. The brunch was hands down the better meal. I would recommend the French Toast. There is a butter cream that is to die for. No syrup needed. If you fancy, there are plenty of options. Regardless of the meal you choose. Afterward we went to the shops where we spent about another hour looking around at everything. Lots of homemaking stuff and suvineers. I will be attending the brunch again but will probably skip the dinner. They have a garden that was reserved for a wedding later in the week. I can see why the people picked that location. It is beautiful with a private reception area. Hope this review bring light to your questions but honestly I don't know enough to post more. There are a lot of things they offer that I don't know about, and I only visited twice. I am a local so I will be returning and will update as necessary.
We love this place - it has always very good quality food for still reasonable prize, super friendly staff, extreme nice environment. You definitely need to reserve a table unless you come at less popular times. We love to combine it of course with a walk on the museum site, but you can visit the Inn independent from the museum. In the winter time you have to enjoy the hot apple cider. Also the corn bread is a must side order. Enjoy!
Our 25th anniversary dinner was PHENOMENAL!!! I have massive dietary issues, and the chef came out personally to help us come up with something delicious and OH MY GOSH was it FANTASTIC!
HIGHLY recommend the onion soup, tea brined lamb chops, and crispy Brussels, as well as the filet mignon, Yukon Gold potatoes, green beans, and the flourless chocolate cake was the PERFECT dessert to share! The fried brie appetizer was absolutely scrumptious!
Thank you so much for making our anniversary dinner the best one to date! Yes, I am saying that our of all 25 anniversary meals, this one was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!
