A warm welcome from Emma and Euan , then relaxed in a well decorated lounge / bar by the fire. Bedroom in the old stable nicely decorated and comfy. Excellent evening meal and breakfast too, the next day. Highly recommend staying here or dining, but be aware to book in advance.
New to the area we decided to try the Mey Hotel for food last night. A very warm welcome from the owners Ewan and Emma, lovely decor, nice & warm on a cold wet night and the food was great. Smoked seafood starter to share, haggis, neeps and tatties and fish & chips. Highly recommended and we will be back.
Euan and Emma could not have given us a warmer welcome. Euans Haggis, Neeps and potato starter was outstanding. The venison casserole cooked to perfection and the lightest of ginger sponges for pudding. Portion sizes were perfect and our conversation with Euan and Emma was a bonus . They were so friendly and relaxed. We would highly recommend this hotel and wish them all the best.
We stayed here for a night on our NC500 adventure. The room and bathroom were spotless and the bed was comfortable. I am not really a fan of “motel” type rooms ( outside the main hotel with an outside door leading directly into the bedroom) but it was fine for one night. The owners have obviously invested a lot of hard work into the business, although there is more to do, the service was excellent. We had a great evening meal and breakfast.
On arrival we were made very welcome by Emma, and we had a good feeling as we booked in. Our room had a very Scottish flavour, tartan decor; lovely & warm, as it had turned colder the further up North we travelled. Lots of traditional Scottish decor, and very relaxing after a long day of travelling. The bed was comfortable, especially the Tunnocks treats; and the bathroom with shower was very spacious. |We had to book our time slot for dinner, and enjoyed a drink in the lounge beforehand. Although there was no draught beers, there was a good range of local bottled ales just waiting to be tried out. |The meals we had were always cooked to order by Euan. Lots locally sourced, beautifully presented and tasted delicious.|After dinner there is an opportunity to test out the malt whiskies, in a Flight. Four wee drams tasters. Euan knew a lot about whisky!|We stayed for three nights. It's the perfect location for John O'Groats, a day trip to the Orkneys, visiting the Castle of Mey, or just walking along the coast.|Castle of Mey is closed Monday & Tuesday, just the days we were there, but you can walk to it & take photos easily.|All in all, a very pleasant stay, with friendly hosts.|
This was a pleasant stop at a small hotel well located virtually opposite the entrance to the Castle of Mey house and gardens. Easy parking in their own car park immediately adjacent to the hotel. ||We had a warm welcome from our convivial hosts and the bedroom was good (although not overly large). All the usual bits and pieces and a very comfortable bed. The bathrooms seem to have been recently refurbished, and immaculately clean. The food was just what was required; uncomplicated and well cooked, both dinner and breakfast. I was especially pleased to see Marmite in the pot of jams, marmalade, etc!||All in all this was a very pleasant stop. Recommended.
Whilst doing a road trip along the North Coast 500 and elsewhere, we came across this charming little hotel|The owners seem to have taken it on over the last year.|Bedrooms and bathrooms were spotless|I really liked the way they seem to offer food of the season. We had venison stew and broccoli |Delicious. Followed by a delightfully flavoured key lime pie. Yummy||Great night sky |Went out at 10pm hoping to see the Northern lights… and instead saw a perfect image of the Milky Way overhead .|Lovely and quiet spot with a great selection of whiskies.|Enjoy|
We loved our stay at the Mey Hotel. We were met with a friendly reception from Emma and shown to our room. We had room 5 which was very clean, nicely decorated and very quiet. We ate our evening meal there which was delicious! The menu had plenty to chose from, so spoilt for choice. We loved how the chef (Euan) showed us to our table and served us himself. It was like we’d been invited to lunch. There is also a well stocked bar serving local beers and gin.|Breakfast was delicious and fresh - the eggs were cooked perfectly!|Emma and Euan were fantastic hosts, happy to chat or to leave you in peace if you preferred. We’d definitely recommend The Mey Hotel to others and will no doubt be returning. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
