My husband and I enjoyed a nice meal this evening at The Manor House. The menu has a good choice and prices are very reasonable. The food was good quality, tasty, and nicely presented with good portion sizes. The waitress was friendly. The hotel is 'dated' but is that such a bad thing? Not in my opinion, it just added to the charm of the place and the food and staff more than made up for it. I would recommend and will be back. Many thanks,
We had my brothers funeral tea here as it was nice and local to the Crematorium for family members attending from further afield. The funeral tea was lovely. The service was first class. I am coeliac and one gluten free option was requested. This was served separately from the rest and the home made dessert was delicious. Although we opted for the standard tea, when booking I was told I could pick and chose what I wanted on the day. We were able to change and confirm numbers up to two days before the day.
Great experience here
I really enjoyed the atmosphere
Friendly stuffs plus the yummy foods ???? and a pretty sure this hotel is the real deal ????
Can't wait for the visit again with my family ☺️.
The food was first class, locally sourced produce I believe, nice big portions and the service was great. Situated 10 mins out of Dumfries in a beautiful little village called Torthorwald and just off the A709. Perfect location for tourists or for locals wanting a lovely meal. Will definitely be back. The Highland Chicken and Sticky Toffee pudding were amazing!
My husband and I decided to book a weekend away not too far from home. Came upon this lovely place. Ken and Caroline were very welcoming. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. Thoroughly enjoyed my weekend and will definitely be back. Well done Ken and Caroline ????????
This place could do with a bit of love and attention - I'm sure a lot of pasing trade will be lost through the tired outside appearance - but the place has atmosphere, really friendly and professional staff and great food. It is a hotel but passes perfectly as a pub with food with a warm mix of locals and visitors. Don't be put off and turn around in the car park, go in, the beer and steak are great.
This is our second visit to this hotel and on both occasions we have found Ken and Caroline the perfect host. The staff are friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The food is served either in the bar or restaurant and is excellent and plentiful and reasonably priced. Breakfast is served and is well presented with a choice of hot food and cereals .The Manor is Located just a few miles from Gretna Green, and Dumfries centre is a short drive away. If you want a nice break away for couples or with the family, and you have not visited this part of Scotland before, then I would recommend you book a room at The Manor Country House Hotel. Oh by the way not forgetting Mackie the hotel dog he is cool.
We were staying nearby and looking for food. Passing by we stopped and asked about eating that evening. It was all very complicated because 'one of the chef's was on holiday' - in August! and they had a group staying (isn't that what hotels are for?). Anyway the chef said we could book a table for the evening. When we returned a couple of hours later we were told that we could only eat in the bar, as the restaurant was not open in August. We explained that we had booked and that we did not want to eat in a bar with 'background music' and a TV. We were allowed to eat in the Dining Room and the food was fine but the service was awful (eg could we have some water? it was brought but no glasses were provided). The sweet was dreadful. As someone else has said, this place needs refurbishment and someone to take charge of it. Very disappointing.
