The Line hotel has the prices of a five-star hotel but the overall quality of a second rate motel. Its main virtue is its location for those who need a hotel in that area. The hotel is in desperate need of a makeover.
1. The furniture in the room was filled with nicks and scratches.
2. The fixtures are all outdated. The metal hardware in the sink was corroded. The shower head was as if it were from another era.
3. The lighting in the room was cold and inadequate.
4. The door handle fell off the closet when we opened it.
5. There were only three hangars in the closet.
6. The only chair in the room was a desk chair. There was no other place in the room to sit.
7. We had booked a room for two. However, there was only one umbrella and one robe in the room. We obtained another umbrella at the front desk as it was raining. We asked for another robe to be sent to the room, but it never showed up.
8. The hotel was not transparent in its listing of room prices on its website. There was an additional $27 amenities fee added to the stated room price (even though we used none of the amenities). Yes, it was in the fine print, but the room cost posted on the website should include it.
9. The total for two nights in the most basic of its rooms came to $1324 (including tax and amenity fees).
10. The hotel required a $150 per day security deposit. We have never encountered anything like that in all of our other hotel stays.
We stayed at The Line DC for our anniversary weekend. When I asked via text (in response to an initial text from the hotel) to arrange for champagne and flowers, I was met with a response that we needed to use “the app,” which was not introduced or evident to us. In the end, we did not get what we wanted. Upon arrival, we were greeted by surly front desk staff. Although there was no one else in the lobby, one of the people merely played on her phone while we waited to check in. We were met with a nasty response when I inquired about checking in, so the other person, who was not much more friendly, checked us in. The other front desk person lost her temper and left on her “break.” When I asked for the person’s name, the other did not know it and merely informed us that she was “new.” We asked the manager to contact us, but this never occurred during our entire stay. We arranged for a late checkout for an additional fee. However, the housekeeping staff twice entered our room inquiring about when we were leaving, interrupting our early afternoon and asking if we had informed the front desk. Of course, we did – and we were charged for it! The only time service was on par was when ordering extra coffee pods which were delivered quickly. Even so, the staff were not in uniform and had no name tags. The coffee was delivered in a brown paper bag.
The Line may have a unique design, albeit a bit dated and tired, but the customer service was a major letdown. We strongly advise against staying at The Line DC. There are numerous other superior options in Washington, DC.
Despite the hotel staff's lack of hospitality, the restaurant staff at No Goodbyes was terrific. Kudos to Hannah, our server, and the bartender. The food and drink were delicious. Go to the restaurant and skip the hotel.
the coffee shop at the Line Hotel DC is top tier!! the coffee espresso shots, the staff/Line team, and pastries are outstanding! me and my little miniature dachshund baby, Georgia Bean, come here ALL the time and it never disappoints! A must visit for DC espresso lovers. plus the atmospheric work/lounge areas inside the Hotel are so comfortable and aesthetically well designed ????
The hotel staff were helpful and courteous. The room was beautiful; stunning hard wood floors. A negative was the glass doors leading into the bathroom; not very private. The breakfast sandwich we got in the morning was delectable! Was located in a great neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again.
AVOID at all costs!|I have family in the area, so I have stayed at the Line several times. It is close and convenient, so we continued to stay there despite having some issue literally every single time. Every single time, without fail, something is wrong -- the internet is down, there's a leak in the bathroom, the heater is stuck on boiling, the AC doesn't work, the TV doesn't work. Literally. Every. Single. Time. ||This last trip was the final straw. I had booked in advance and paid for a room in full. After an extremely long day of travel, and with family to see soon, we arrived at the Line to check-in. The room was already paid for, but then needed ANOTHER credit card to swipe to put a hold on for the mini-bar, which we had no intention of using. But, alas, their credit card machine was "down." They literally could not check us in. ||You'd think they wouldn't be a problem, right? Could they manually enter the card number? Nope. Could they write it down and enter it later when the machine was working? Nope? Could they just let us into our room now and I'd come back to swipe a card when the machine was working? Nope? Could they give us a complimentary drink at the bar while we waited? Nope? Could they even offer an apology? No. ||Instead, we were forced to go outside and wait TWO HOURS to the machine to work, so we could swipe a second credit card, for a mini-bar we never opened. ||To make matters worse, the TV didn't work, and they refused to help. They have a Pelaton in the exercise room, but management told us the hotel didn't renew their subscription, making the equipment useless. ||And when I went to check out, the woman at the front desk took a TEN MINUTE phone call in the middle of our conversation. Afraid of missing my train, I just left without having my questions answered. ||And a week later, I see an extra $63 "amenities" fee on my credit card, in addition to the booking and other fees I already paid. I called and explained the situation, that no one told me about this fee, that we were wildly inconvenienced, and that we didn't use any amenities because we were told we couldn't. Did the waive or discount the fee? Of course not. ||Don't be fooled by the beautiful neighborhood, great location, and nice pictures. This is the Hotel That Never Works, with the most incompetent and rude staff of any hotel in the country. It's not worth your time, your money, or your never-ending frustration. Go stay literally anywhere else.
The best thing about this hotel is the VERY best thing. Nothing else even comes close...at all.||BANQUETS!!!!!!!!!!!||The most well-run team I've encountered in a VERY long time!! Every meal, every occasion was beyond words. I have to recognize the staff...BY NAME!!!!||Under the leadership of KRISTJAN and ERIK!! WOW!! |Identical twin brothers who are the epitome of efficiency and professionalism. I worked with them separately and together, and they are a dynamite combination.||To the staff that worked our meals and our evening reception:|RECEPTION:||KRISTJAN|BTISSAM|CASTER|ALLAN||MEAL SERVICE:|RICHARD|SCOTT|SEDI|JEREMIAS|MOISES||Before I forget!! FRONT DESK AGENT:|MOISES is an amazingly talented (and well-read) young man. Took outstanding care of me with steady streams of buckets of ice when I needed them. :-)||Please recognize this group of talented staff members!! They are HUGE assets ti the Line DC.||I was supremely disappointed in my experience with the hotel’s sales team. Absolutely a dismal experience. There is no General manager on board, but as the Meeting Manager for my group, I was never greeted by the GM (or acting), and I left without anyone in Sales bidding me farewell or thanking me for our business.||...truly a major disappointment.
The hotel decor is lovely; however that is where the pleasant qualities end. My room was unbearably hot, it felt like sleeping in a sauna. The front desk said they would alert maintenance but I doubt they did. The internet to the TV didn't work, the water pressure in the shower was low and the room was not properly cleaned. I had to walk to CVS for cleaning supplies. I was told they were fully booked so perhaps that is why I received a hot and dirty room. Maybe if someone visits during the winter on a slow week they will have a better experience. The one good plus is that hotel restaurant was decent and drinks were good.
Location crazy noisy, next to several nightclubs, staff on front desk attitudey! "what do you want" Rooms actually nice, however, this has to be one of the worse run hotels I have ever stayed in. Our room, a $500+ suite, was crazy noisy as it was opposite one of several night clubs that are very close to the hotel, we moved rooms at midnight as impossible to sleep, the room we moved to was a grade down than the suite we had paid for. After complaining the next day that the room we had to move to was a much smaller than the one we paid for we got moved to another room the same grade as we had paid for. Unfortunately, a car alarm outside the building went off all night. Not the hotels fault of course, but again we could not sleep. The hotel manager was apologetic and when we left having had hardly any sleep for 3 nights was given a gift certificate, a typed piece of paper with a gift certificate number on it for free 2 night stay, within the next 12 months. Here is the rub, they would not honor the gift certificate when I tried to use it, despite my emailing a copy of the certificate with the number on it to Briony to prove its legitimacy, I did not keep the original as it was simply a printed piece of paper with a number on it. Having spoken with several people and being on hold for a total time of 17 minutes was told despite the fact I have a photo of the gift certificate it can't be honored. Honestly, save yourselves a lot of pain and hassle and don't stay here. I could not recommend this hotel.
