I've been traveling to Louisiana the last 5 years, absolutely love it here. Wanted to try some southern/soul food plate lunches, never have before, or greens
Saw The Kitchen, and Tuesday was Oxtails..I was all in
Got two plates.. just for me and my dog, made 3 meals from it, and I'm a big eater
Mustard greens are incredible, bit of spice, Loved them.
Smothered cabbage amazing
Black eyed peas and red beans really good too
Rice is really really tasty, one had the oxtail gravy on it, other was basically their plane, I'd say, dirty rice, so yummy
The oxtail is incredible, falls off the bone
The girl helping me recommended the fried pork chop over the smothered pork chop.. it's the best I've ever had I think, just amazing

Went a few months ago and was a little down from the food to price ratio and the hostess having an attitude but we always give second chances. Didn't go back but a coworker ordered from there and I asked to take an oxtail as she was really disappointed given the price only to find out they weren't even cooked all the way and there was NO SEASON on the phone whatsoever. I think they spoke to the seller but she was angry with them. So I guess technically that's my second try ????????♀️

We went here for a business plate lunch. Not disappointed. Fried Pork Chop was excellent. Tasty Yams and satisfying rice and beans.

Delicious home style southern food and a friendly atmosphere. We went there on Wednesday and ordered fried chicken. It was so good. The chicken was juicy and tender, with extra crispy batter. The sides were very nice too. Definitely try out corn bread dressing. It's one of our favorites.
I don’t think nobody that owns a restaurant in the lake Charles la area have good food the only one I think had decent food was The Spot this food was nasty and y the hell was it so much salt in my cornbread I guess I need to start cooking more
Wait staff was great (even offering to fry chicken from raw since one in our party did not want BBQ sauce on her meat), food was tasty and served quickly. Cornbread was super tasty and moist!
Called to place an order, told them I don't want any BBQ sauce on order, when I get there it has BBQ sauce all over everything. The Brisket was tough and dry even though it has sauce over it. The Rice Dressing was horrible, the rice was not cooked so it was crunchy!! I will never be back oh and to top it off the plate cost over $15.00 the only thing that was eatable was the cornbread! I gave it one star because I had too otherwise there would be a BIG 0!
