Best KPortal Reviews
I liked The James Room! I went with friends on a Friday night and had a great time. Our waitress was not friendly, but she was efficient and quick to take our orders. We had the Equinox and the New Year’s Resolution and both were delicious! It was very busy, but our party of 4 was seated immediately around @10pm. However, other parties were sitting waiting and the Beltline location doesn’t take reservations.
Came here for my husbands birthday after it was recommended to us. We were the first ones in the bar that afternoon and there were about four people working, two employees at the side of the bar chatting, one gentlemen washing glasses behind the bar and then apparently the actual bartender who we were told was in the bathroom and would be with us shortly- no problem we said. We wait a while and a second person comes up to us and apologizes that the bartender is in the bathroom but gives us menus. We start chatting about the espresso martini on the menu and he lets us know they’re known for that drink. We wait a little while longer and a young man comes in the from the front, not sure that’s where the bathroom is but okay everyone has to have smoke breaks but why couldn’t anyone else have made us drinks in the meantime? We order two espresso martinis and I see him putting in the three espresso beans and I’m thinking they must do their martinis differently because from my angle, there is no liquid in those glasses. He brings up two half full espresso glasses with the espresso beans floating in black water and floating to the sides. He immediately puts the credit card reader on the counter for us to close out- a 20% gratuity auto added and it’s requesting if we’d like to add more tip. What if we wanted to have more drinks? We are the only people inside and we have to pay immediately as if we are going to walk out on the tab? We pay $50 for two drinks and he walks to the end of the bar and texts on his phone the remainder of our time we are there. The martinis were the worst we’ve ever had in Atlanta. We forced them down and left. One and done for us at this place.
Pretty small in the inside but the waiters were very nice and personable. The menu okay. They have a Live DJ some nights. It’s located near the Beltline so it’s surround by other cute lil places. Parking is only $6!!
If you're looking for a unique and intimate experience, The James Room is a must-try hidden speakeasy. However, I highly recommend making reservations in advance, as the wait can be quite long.
Once inside, you'll be transported to a dark, mysterious setting with music playing in the background, which adds to the speakeasy's allure. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, helping us select the perfect cocktail and dessert to enjoy.
Overall, The James Room is an excellent spot for a date night or a night out with friends when you want to dress up and enjoy a unique atmosphere. I highly recommend checking it out for anyone looking for an unforgettable evening.
This happened a little while ago but I'm just now making time to leave the review.
Pros: The ambiance is nice though the music was a few notches too loud
Cons: The service is very slow. My girlfriends and I sat for over 15 minutes before our server greeted us. We were trying to have a girls night so we didn't want to leave out of frustration.
In hindsight that was a red flag we ignored. We were too committed to having a nice night out and decided that the first time might have been an honest mistake. It took forever to get every drink we ordered, and we tried to consistently wave down our server as he walked right past our table...nothing.
In the end we saw they charge an automatic gratuity of 20%. My friends and I have all worked in the service industry and typically tip 25%+. So the amount wasn't actually the problem, it was the poor service. It made sense instantly that we got such lousy service, because the server knows he's getting 20% anyway. Management was unwilling to hear us out at all.
It's a waste of a good location and venue when you aren't willing to be receptive to any feedback. We explained that we're former restaurant/bar industry employees and know that the service we received was below par and management got very defensive.
Speakeasy vibes in downtown ATL near off the belt line. The winter vacation (best coconut flavored drink I’ve ever experienced) and autumn bliss (Pj wasn’t feeling this one too much, tasted sour). The charcuterie board was perfect, ???? cakes simply splendid, and the flat bread was very flavorful. Great pre game spot for friends and good music.
By day a coffee spot, by night a lounge. On my first visit, the staff, especially the ladies, were outstanding in ensuring I had a great experience. The coffee was delightful, and the donut I chose was just as good. The ambiance is charming and intimate, perfect for those who enjoy socializing. I'm looking forward to experiencing their evening lounge next time.
Cheers,
BN
Overall just ok - the atmosphere is a vibe but I hate that I have to scream in every establishment in Atlanta. Turn the music down!!!!!!! The DJ is great, charcuterie board was on point but I can’t hold a conversation with anyone - my voice is damn near gone. The server checked in maybe twice over an hour and a half so we ended up forgetting that we wanted more olives. Again, turn the music down - we would like to hear the person screaming across the table from us, sheesh. It’s a small place - it doesn’t need to be so loud!
