We used to come here all the time. Place would be packed with patrons. It's definitely not like that these days..well at least the day I went. The place was completely empty only 3 parties were dining in at the time totalling up to 7 people. Service was great we were seated right away because there was no wait lol. The food has gone downhill all except the fish & crab & hush puppies. Everything else not worth the price. They have lost their flavor. The food had no seasoning very little or none. And the prices have gone up a lot..definitely need Gordon Ramsey to come in and turn that thing around. That was a neighborhood stable in vegas and for that place to be dead the way it was on a Sunday speaks volumes. There was a time you couldn't find a parking spot. I think a major upgrade to the menu new cooks or some because I'm telling you I was really disappointed in the food. Service was great..but the food has gone downhill. Crazy thing is I saw a commercial advertising to come visit & it brought back memories so wanted to give it a try. Well I will say the advertising work. But...will I return? Probably not if i do its to maybe to get some crab. Call Gordon he can get yall back on the map.
Was excited to get there, but before we even ordered, the waiter told us there were no wings ,Mac cheese, and one other items at 11am.Shrimp was frozen, green like it came out the can Hush Puppy taste like just cornbread.Catfish has no taste. For 60.00, it's not worth it for lunch, and the sides are way too expensive. 5.00 smh
I have been craving good catfish for a while now. The Hush Puppies on Nellis closed, and the roads to get across town to the original Hush Puppies really suck. Today, we had to be on that side of town, so we stopped in for lunch.
Atmosphere was no way near where it used to be. No longer a salad bar available ???? (Greatly missed by us and other customers there) The Hush Puppies are no longer the great tasting original fresh and cooked daily ones. These look like they are the frozen, not even round (as you can see in the picture), and no flavor at all. The Red Beans and Rice were ok but needed more flavor (IMHO). The catfish was ok. Again, there's not much flavor. The hamburger I was told was good. I asked about the original Hush Puppies and was told that there is a new owner that the Ghormley family sold it. Again IMHO the new owners do not know how to fix Southern foods.
Will we be making the trip across town again for catfish from here? NO!
Holy Trinity! You are greeted upon entering with the sounds of some Ragtime Jazz (what I call New Orleans Street Jazz). The staff is warm and friendly and meets you with a smile. The menu is not over the top, and the flavors are pretty well spot-on. My wife had the catfish, which was cooked to perfection. The catfish was prepared in cornmeal, which led to a true southern taste. I had the Jambalaya. The sauce was a bit thin, and the veggies were a bit chunky, but that is a minor thing and a personal preference. Overall, the Jambalaya was superb and had the flavors I would expect in New Orleans. We both had the Red Beans and Rice as our side. Again, the flavor was outstanding. Again, personal preference, I would have liked there to be a bit more of the liquid as the rice absorbed it quickly. Overall, this was amazing and a spot that we will put into our rotation.
The food was great. The service was good. There was never a wait for the food to come out or refills. My friends and I hadn't been there for almost a year and we were able to tell that there were little things that had changed. Certain Specials that were enjoyed for years prior, were gone. The place definitely looked more dated and old but that was some of its charm. Smaller but still fair portions and the big thing was the prices just from a year ago. Four of us with an almost 200 dollar check with no drinks? At least they didn't rush us out after being there close to two hours and thankfully it wasn't busy. If it had, we would have left after eating.
We'll probably be back but there are a lot of other places we might try. Thanks Hush Puppy for some great meals and better memories. Wish you well.
We decided to have dinner here on a whim. Monday evening 6ish pm. Upon arriving, the host informed us that the wait time to be seated would be 30-45 min. And another 30-45 for our food after ordering. They only have one waiter and one cook and a busser. The hush puppies are good! Chicken cajun pasta was delishes, recommended by our waiter. We also had the surf & and turf. The steak was cooked perfectly well. Got two clusters of crab legs good. Collard greens where delishes as well. Our waiter was Charlie, and he went above and beyond! Made sure we had drinks and hush puppies while we waited for our dinner. He brought over a slice of pecan pie, and it was delicious!!! Despite the wait times, we enjoyed our dinner.
This place does NOT have all you can eat salad bar and catfish. This is a lie. New owners have turned it into a chicken shack and even that's bad. Chicken only seasoned with pepper. Ugh!! Catfish tastes old and it's definitely not filet unless they've cut them in half. Food was terrible. Not the Hush Puppy of the past. Don't come here looking for the experience you had if you were a regular from years ago. IT IS NOT THE SAME.
We got there at the end of the night and the server dude (charles i think his name was) was great . He was by far the best waiter i have came across while in vegas, he made sure we was comfortable and pleased with what we ordered.
I will definitely go back just because of the service, but the food was good also, ribs where kinda tough, jambalaya was salty but overall great experience. Thanks guys
