The perfect little local. Great food and stylish setting. I can see brunch here becoming a ‘habit’
The new autumn menu is exceptional. We had dinner on Friday night and even my sister, who isn't great at trying unusual things found the food delicious and excellent. It is very seasonal and very exciting for a small local restaurant - pickled quails eggs, oysters, grouse, venison and rabbit are a few of the dishes I can remember. The deserts are excellent too - as was the friendly waiter who patiently explained all the dishes. We had cocktails, a bottle of wine and 2-3 courses each and paid around £35/person. So great value too. Can't recommend it enough.
Quality coffee, short but punchy menu in a laid back informal vibe. If I lived in the area it would be a favourite.
We are here on a Friday night and enjoyed a lovely meal with well selected drinks. I really liked the idea of cocktails, pre and post dinner. Only a choice of three of each, but the flavours were well thought through. We both had different ones and they were delicious, especially the 'little treacle'. Replacing the tired after dinner coffee is a good move. The food showed great promise and you can tell they are experimenting with new flavours and local produce. A couple of the dishes were a bit lacking in flavour and could do with a bit more punch. The mac cheese wasn't really cheesy enough for me. My favourite dish was the leeks with ricotta, yummy. The menu wasn't massive, but well considered. Can't wait to go back and try some of their brunch dishes!!
Yummy brunch selection and great coffee. Nice, cosy and informal setting. Only dropping the rating because the service was slack. We cleared up our own plates in the end as we got tired of waiting, even though there was hardly anyone else in there. I'd try it again.
Food was great - the vegan brunch was truely excellent, with some exciting options which you wouldn't normally get even on a vegetarian breakfast. It was however slightly ruined by the poor service - one of the waitresses was busy and efficient but the rest seemed to just walk around aimlessly. Had to flag them down quote a few times after waiting about 30 mins trying to get eye contact to even order drinks and we weren't the only ones. It's a shame as the food was so good, just massively let down by the service...
I'm conflicted on how to rate The Habit. This was our first visit and although the food was great the over all experience wasn't. When we arrived we were ignored for about 5 minutes, despite the place being empty, something I noted happened with most of the people that arrived after us.
The food was lovely, the chorizo beans were delicious, as was my wife's brunch bowl. However when the food arrived I found an end piece of bread underneath a larger piece and although the waitress said she'd replace it, she never came back. Also, although my wife's egg was cook perfectly she felt that the dish could have done with two especially for £10.
I certainly want to eat here again, as the kitchen is clearly excellent but the world of cuisine is made of two halves and I hope we just got the serving staff on a bad day.
We really enjoyed our visit this weekend for brunch. The food and drinks were delicious and the staff were friendly. Perhaps the only niggle were that a few of the portions were a little small, but we had just come from the local parkrun so perhaps were hungrier than usual.
