Best KPortal Reviews

Beautiful ambiance. Excellent customer service although the ribeye steak was a bit overly cooked as it was ordered medium rare. The ribeye was presented well although it was not a good solid traditional ribeye it was more about presentation rather than a delicious piece of steak. The beef tar tartare was delicious. The horseradish mashed potatoes were not our favorite.
We would return for cocktails and try different entrees next time.
No substitutions. Seriously. Loud loud environment with men who scream at each other about sports and teams of various kinds. Kind of a 90’s vibe inside. Our steaks were so tough that the steak knife was mandatory. And small bites helped. Salad heavy handed and completely mundane. Vegetables undercooked. Based on how many good to great places there are in Portland. This is last in line.
First, I would say the name is a bit deceiving calling it a bar and grill, we expected a burger bar and did not expect the prices. Not did a lot of people we saw sit then scoot. The prices are steep but the food and service was amazing. We got drinks and a couple appetizers, bang bang shrimp and calamari. They were amazing and surprisingly huge portions. The bartenders were very knowledgeable on food and drinks. I'd go back here for sure.
This restaurant is overly dark, cramped and noisy, just an FYI.
We had an 8pm reservation. We arrived on time, then waited 25 minutes to get seated. The hostess looked a bit lost and overwhelmed, but finally got us a tiny table in a row of tiny tables, with less than 3 feet between patrons. I'm not exaggerating.
The waitress showed up about 10 minutes later and took our drink order. I asked for a gin martini, which was lukewarm and tasted like water. The olives were stuffed with a crumbly, tasteless blue cheese, which just seemed old. I requested a replacement, which was brought and was slightly better, although still on the warm side.
We got escargot as our appetizer, which again seemed amazingly bland. The sauce had little to no spice, garlic or even butter flavor, dipping the bread in it just made the bread taste like I didn't.
I ordered steak frites, my wife got the pork chop, which she asked to be well done. It was not, so we waited again to get what we asked for. Meanwhile we snacked on my fries (see pic), since there was an extreme abundance of them – they were good, but why shouldn't they be? They're FRIES.
They brought back my wife's pork chop properly cooked which was nice, although it hardly mattered because the pork was dry and over-seasoned. The prime sirloin was good (not great), so if that's all you care about and nothing else, this is the place for you.
Our waitress was very nice and apologized several times (for each mistake), and apparently was getting plenty of practice since we heard her apologize to the table on either side of us as well...
In the end, she was the only one who did, and the restaurant charged us full price for our "experience". You'll be best served to walk past this place.
We are regulars and love the Grill Room. Every time we walk in we’re greeted by the friendly staff. We usually opt for bar seating and everyone behind the bar is so nice! The food is delicious. Everything on the menu (the steak and more) is so well prepared and a real treat. Last night Lexie knew the menu backwards and forwards and made the most delicious martinis. Makenzie and Ryan are also a pleasure behind the bar. We feel so welcome whenever we visit through the food and the service. I definitely recommend this great establishment!
miserably served meals, we had a beef tartar and steak and fries, the fries were burned. We came with some much expectations due to the reviews. It was an absolute waste of money. First and last time we come. Completely over rated. service from average to below.
Salmon and pork were both outstanding, as was the Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer. I order salmon whenever I go out, and this is the best salmon I've had in Portland. The service was excellent, attentive, seemed to be a team effort. The atmosphere is a little noisy, but the excellence of everything else made it totally worthwhile.
I’ve eaten at the Grill Room many times over the years and know what to expect. My meal was as described and very good. I had the pork chop with horseradish mashed potatoes. My issue for this particular visit was my beverage. Guinness is my go to alcoholic beverage of choice and I’ve had more than a few pints here in the past. I understand this beverage is likely not a bartenders favorite because the proper pour is a bit more time consuming. What I was served though, twice, is embarrassing for an establishment with Guinness on draught. I would have been better off pouring my own from a nitro can. Frankly, as much concern as our server showed for our entrees, he should have looked at my beer, which was basically a half pint of head, and offered a re-pour. Hopefully the bartenders on staff will be taught how to pour a proper pint of Guinness.
