The place is a bit run down and shabby. But the carvery was nice, the meat was a good cut and was generously served. The price of drinks are the usual steep price as in almost every pub. The staff were friendly and pleasant. The pool table was a mere 50p, but was too big for the room it was in. It's so important that pubs like this keep running. They are the heartbeat of a community that all too often is disappearing.
A traditional country pub and the only one in the village. We had a bar meal on a Friday night and the place had a good cast of locals to give it a bit of atmosphere. The pub itself is in need of a bit of TLC although the beer garden looked alright had it not been raining. The staff were really friendly but unfortunately the food was just alright with limited vegetarian options and the cask beer wasn't as fresh as I'd like.
I stayed at the Green Dragon Inn at the end of my first day of cycling from Land's End to John O'Groats in June 2104.
Whilst the room was a little tired and would have been much improved by an en suite this was greatly outweighed by a very friendly welcome and great service. Despite the accommodation being above the bar it was surprisingly quiet although the local church clock chimes did wake me nearly every hour :)
The food was good wholesome stuff with the right size portions for someone who has just cycled 120 miles. The restaurant has a pleasant view over the garden, which would have been a nice place to sit itself if it hadn't just bucketed down.
Breakfast was also a prodigious affair and set me up very nicely for day 2 - another 120 miles to a small village near Bristol.
Nice pub friendly landlord and staff. Sadly like a lot of pubs it's not that busy but on the plus side you don't have to fight your way to the bar.
Old style, olde worlde decor with cosy log burning stove. Friendly gaffer. Pub games room and restaurant room. One local real ale on from Clearwater Brewery. Only one in the village.
I urge you to go to this place and take it all in - conversation, friendly faces, games, and cosiness. A wonderful experience.
