Lovely and clean.Towels, soap t.v and facilities to make a hot drink. Shared bathrooms which again was clean and you can see the train station platform through the window its that close. I had the twin room and the double room for my family. I missed out on the family room however it was a comfortable stay. Perfect location for me as the hotel is right by Brandon station. One thing is the hotel does NOT do breakfast anymore. please consider this before booking as I was disappointed as it is included into the price. I had to ring up and ask where do I go for breakfast and was told they don't do breakfast. There is however a breakfast grab bag which was healthy and the kids loved it. I did have to phone up and ask for the bags however the manager came down and gave it to us. Doesn't beat the bowl of cereal and toast/fry up but nice. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I would stay again but in the family room. I would use the restaurant attached to the hotel.the food smelled and looked amazing. Stairs was a struggle for me as I use a stick I did not see a lift however i didn't ask
Relaxed and friendly hotel. Its an old building but nicely decorated and very clean. We were visiting friends and planned to go out for dinner, but the buffet smelled so delcious we ate there - really tasty and excellent value. The panko chicken was crispy and tender - thoroughly recommend it. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. We will definitely be back.
The food was really good for a buffet. It tasted fresh and was not sitting under the heat lamps for extended periods of time. The dining room was very large and capable of accommodating large parties.
The drink cocktails were great and affordably priced. The staff was great and checked on us frequently.
They have a toy car in the back room that my son would not leave alone. So the kids were entertained so the adults could enjoy dinner. Definitely worth a go.
Just returned from a two night stay at this hotel. Was expecting the worst having read the reviews below, however, we were pleasantly surprised.||We were welcomed by a very nice and friendly receptionist. The room was small, but perfectly adequate. A bath, rather than a shower, but it filled quickly with plenty of hot water for each of us to have a bath. It was a welcome luxury after riding our horses all day in the beautiful forest.||The grab bag breakfast was ideal for us to take with us as part of our picnic lunch. On the second morning, no breakfast. I phoned the number given at reception to call in case of queries (reception doesn't open till midday) and was told that breakfast had been delivered the previous night, so perhaps another guest had taken it. I was immediately offered a refund for this, so look forward to receiving it.||We didn't hear any noise from the washing machine mentioned in other reviews and certainly weren't bothered by noise from trains. In the morning you could hear other guests walking around, but pretty sure you would get that in any hotel!||The restaurant and bar were under refurbishment, but there are plenty of other places to go to eat or drink nearby. Highly recommend both the Chinese and Indian restaurants up by the traffic lights. ||We were told by locals that the Indian restaurant at the hotel was very good when it was open, so I imagine when the new restaurant opens, it will be well worth a visit.||So, all in all, we had a very pleasant experience at this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to return.
Stayed here last night. Nice hotel with lovely bar area for a quiet drink. Room itself was fine. Had a TV and big radiator to keep me warm. But I've only give it 2 stars because the shower was freezing and the water would not get hot at all so I had a freezing cold shower in the middle of winter. And they did not serve proper breakfast I got some continental breakfast consisting of orange juice and fruit. Not really ideal when I'm working hundreds of miles away from home. If I had proper breakfast and a hot shower it would definitely have been 5 stars for me. Sorry.
We went here for the Orient Express Buffet. The food is pretty standard British-style Chinese food: sweet and sour chicken balls, fried rice, BBQ pork, etc. There are also tempura prawns and sushi, as well as chips. I was pleasantly surprised by the curry sauce, as it had a bit of heat. The only dish I didn't particularly care for was the monk's vegetables, as they were somewhat overcooked. The drink menu is also larger than I expected, with lots of choices for spirits, beer and wine. Service was very friendly and prompt. Will be back.
Lovely hotel, great hostess Candy, very friendly and helpful staff. Had a brilliant weekend listening to brilliant music. Good bar, met lots of friendly locals. Excellent value for money if you want something at reasonable prices and good atmosphere. Recommended 10/10.

Where to start?? Humm....I know! Let’s start with the word “hotel”. This was everything but a Hotel. Maybe a B&B is more qualified to describe the place, but I’ve been in better B&B’s than this so called hotel…||I had booked for 12 nights here through Booking. I payed £400 for a single bedroom with no ensuite bathroom. This was the info I got on the invoice sent by booking:||||“Single Room with Shared Bathroom||Meal Plan: Breakfast is included in the room rate.||Bath • TV • Hairdryer • Bathrobe • Shared Bathroom • Free toiletries • Fan • Heating||• Shared Toilet • Slippers • Carpeted • Flat-screen TV • Electric kettle •||Wardrobe/Closet • Towels • Linen • Upper floors accessible by stairs only • Clothes||rack • Toilet paper • Bottle of water • Trash cans • Shampoo • Conditioner • Body||soap • Socket near the bed||Bed Size(s): 1 single bed (90-130 cm wide)”||||Also, on the “hotel” Booking.com site, it informed that WiFi was available for free.||Well, needless to say, I should have read the clients reviews and not just look and the average rating of the place, before I actually book…||||So, the breakfast. As many have put it here before, it was a insufferable one, although very healthy indeed. However, eating my breakfast in my bed (specially taking into account that the mattress was long time away from its best condition, shall we say) wasn’t exactly what I had in mind when I booked a room on a hotel, but there you have it. The interesting and very bad part of it was how it was delivered (or not delivered) in the first days I was there. On the first morning, I had the items (2 pieces of fruit, a cereal bar, one small pack of orange juice, one chocolate bun and 1 pack of instant oatmeal) left on a plate on the floor in front of my door. Next day, the items were left on the floor. No bag, no plate, no nothing. Yep, the fruit and the chocolate bun (although in the bag), directly on the floor in front of my room. And what happened on the third day, you are wondering? No breakfast! Yes, indeed. I went to work with just a cup of instant cappuccino that I bought on the store the day before. When I inquired about it, when it wasn't delivered at the time I asked (I was told at my arrival, that they would deliver the breakfast at the time chosen by me), I was informed that they didn’t had enough items to do deliver breakfast that morning. Obviously, it was my time to run to work, so nothing could be done…The rest of the days it was delivered in a paper bag, as it is informed on the “hotel” website.||||Next, the cleaning. Apparently, being a “hotel” doesn’t guarantee you a daily cleaner. For 3 separate days I had no one removing the rubbish and making my bed. I never left anything in the way, so it was very easy to tidy things up, as you would on a Hotel. Apparently not here. When I complained at reception, after the first time the cleaning wasn't made, I was told first that my room was marked as being cleaned, and then, when I insisted that I wasn't, a justification that they didn’t usually cleaned the rooms every day. Nice, isn’t it? I actually had to ask them to change my bed sheets. Otherwise I think I would be using the same ones the whole 12 nights…||When the room was tidied, the carpet wouldn’t be vacuumed (this was done 2 or 3 times). Once, the spoon that I used for the oatmeal wasn’t properly cleaned. I went to pick a new one, but after 10 minutes ringing the reception bell, before 6pm, I gave up and washed it myself in the bathroom.||||The bathroom was alright and cleaned, although the water did leak out from the shower out into the floor, as some other guests have pointed out before. The toilet flush broke a few days after I arrived. It would not flush, so we would have to either go to the other end of the hotel or go downstairs through reception to the restaurant’s bathroom - not nice when you are on your pj’s. It was fixed after 4/5 days…||||||Another nice detail on this place is having the washing machine on the first floor, very close to my room (it was 2 doors away from my room, and just before the bathroom, so it was close). Aside from having the machine on a first floor of an old building (and made of wood as everything around here), they would turn it on in the evening/night). For 3 times, around 10/11 pm I felt the walls shaking for at least 20 minutes each time the machine was spinning. Walls were shaking, door was shaking. Very, very agreeable… I could barely notice the trains, as I was on the other end (and considering the location, I did expect to feel a bit of the trains). But not even the fast ones that would indeed be felt on the building would be as bad as that dreadful washing machine.||||It’s also supposed to be smoking free, but apparently that’s not controlled and I think some of the other guests did smoke in their rooms, as I could smell it a few times.||||To finish off with a cherry on top, I was charged £40, for a broken mirror. A broken mirror that wasn’t even broken and that cracked after using the kettle. I never moved the kettle 1 inch from where it stood the first day I entered in that bedroom. You would assume things in a “hotel” room would be in a place where they can safely be used. However, this wasn’t the case, and I could actually have been hurt, had the mirror actually been broken… This wasn’t their view, and £40 came off of my bank account. I only wished I had pictures of the mirror...||||Oh yes, and forgot about the Wi-Fi. On the Booking.com site it says they have free Wi-Fi. Well, yes it’s free, but you can barely use it. I was hoping I would use it for work (this is as low as you can get in regards of band use...). Forget it. The slowest Wi-Fi you can imagine (you can read the older reviews that also cover this).||||And just so you know, the restaurant on the building is closed for refurbishment, and there was not a forseable date for it’s opening, at least while I was there.||||Good things? Yes! It has heating that actually works. TV set, with lots of channels to compensate for the lack of WiFI (although a very poor TV set) and the lady that usually did nights was very nice and accommodating, as well as the older cleaning lady to whom I talked to once.||||So, if you really need to stay in Brandon or its vicinities, do not go to "The Great Eastern Hotel". There’s plenty to choose from…
