Sent my nephew to pick up some dinners for my grandfather and his wife for his bday. When he got back with the dinners we were disappointed highly. We ordered the red beans and rice and literally was just beans on top of rice. How is that soul?? Just awful. I could have done that myself.
I'm giving them F. I came inside for the first time and spent forty dollars on two meals which is very small portions. The food did look good so I basically had to try each dish aka since they are served in small portion. Time for check out, honey i received nothing but disrespectful cashier with sarcastic mouth I guess that's their service I will not return. Now this me giving my review I did pay for my meal without a handout honey ijs since the cashier thought I asked for free corn when I said give me some corn she replied give me dead! Little ???????? I never mentioned free ???? the others was cool who work there except the little girl. Customer service highly bypass this place as far as the little girl with the scarf on her head Miriam. Not my style, I don't waste gas or money on foolishness. Next! Food cold! No warmth and cornbread stuck to paper and honey normal cooking I can say it's for some people as for me I need more quality taste. I will not come back to this restaurant. Corn cold no flavor, cornbread nasty and cold, food seemed like everything poured out of can and served. I rather go to Jewels for this kind of stuff and bought can of corn, collard green, yams same can taste.
I couldn't eat it so I threw it away too many issues with the cold food barely flavor. Meatloaf I don't know seem like mystery meat or hamburger helper I just threw it all this stuff away I tried to eat it but I couldn't too nasty.
The restaurant is not very inviting. Like I wouldn't want to eat my food there. The guy at the register was polite enough ????. Television and radio were both on full blast ????
Food looked and tasted old especially the sweet potatoes. Was honestly disappointed by the whole experience. ????
Update: I tried to stop by today, and the place is all boarded up and looks permanently closed. It was so sad ???? to lose another blacked owned restaurant on the South Side. Hey, Mayor Brandon, maybe instead of giving illegal aliens $300 million, you could have used some of that to help hard-working businesses like this? You know, legal residens who have lived in Chicago and paid taxes, woked hard at starting and running a business and paid their dues for years ! I dunno but maybe you could have shared that $300 million to offer low interest business loans or even roll back some of the high property taxes in blighted places like this on the South Side?

Great soul food, I had the smothered chicken, and it was so tasty and unbelievably good that I'm still thinking about it. Sides were also very good, I thought the prices were reasonable, and I have no complaints at all. The staff was helpful and very courteous. If I had to nit pick something, it would be that there was no diet soda. They had plenty of soda choices but nothing diet. But I think, unfortunately, this is all too common in black restaurants and stores. I'm not sure why black people don't drink diet soda, but I find this to be the case quite often. I'm trying to limit my sugar intake ( I dont need 200 extra calories for a soda when a 0 calorie diet soda is available). Yeah, I know Im eating soul food, and I'm not at a salad place, but every little thing helps. Also, know this is mostly a take out place as the inside seating is extremely limited to just a very few tables. But I will definitely be back, hopefully sooner then later.
Went there on several occasions ordered the smothered pork chops, they were salty to the point that they were not eatable. 1 particular Staff was not friendly and argumentative and rude. Voiced my concern to the older black lady and she assured me that it wouldn't happen again. Traveled over 40 miles and was disappointed. This establishment is hit or miss
Great food and prices are decent. Long lines but that is the norm for places with gd food. They need to work on their staff handling rush times. I suggest One staff solely for refilling trays, another just orders, and hv a unified system for writing orders on boxes, SChkwht=smothered chicken white. Otherwise this is must visit spot, they have 2 other soul food places close so they hv competition.
Great work, black operated, nt sure uf blk owned but a g8 plc 2 experience
Soul food !!!
I order 2 dinners. 1 chicken, Mac& cheese greens. The other Turkey wings ,Mac &cheese , greens. All of it was Salty except for the Turkey wings . It tastes like they put a box Morton salt in the food. Pay 42 dollars couldn't eat . Don't live close, get home and they did not answer the phone call several times.????????
The absolute worst!!! I've never had dressing with a burned crust on top???? The green beans were bland and not completely cooked. I will not return ????
