Very traditional pub but fabulously welcoming staff. We popped in for a drink and to see if the England match was on - they put it on for us on the big screen. Was lovely to be able to take the dog and chill. The friendly team gave my dog a lot of treats and welcomed us to their pub. We didn’t eat as we had already eaten but other people were and they seemed very happy! Recommend for families!
Called in for an evening whilst on holiday, pub was busy but we found a table. Whilst ordering drinks and food at the bar, we were kindly given another table that had just been cleared. Staff friendly, good choice of traditional pub food at reasonable prices. Mix grill was great and a good plate full. Would happily return in fact we had visited here a few years previously.
We came in on Tuesday 2 families with 4 kids and the service and food was brilliant! Staff were great with kids and nothing too much! One of the girls just had a cheese sandwich but they still gave her a free ice cream! The rattler was great too. Will be back again soon!
This hotel / pub is what it is. The traditional layout of a proper pub with no frills. Honest service from honest people. The bar area looked cute. Plenty of space, lots of natural light. ||This would have once been a grand hotel with impressive staircase and function room with bar on the first floor. Very high ceilings throughout ||It was a refreshing change from what you would normally expect from the Premier Inn a few doors away. ||You can feel and breath the history of the place over the decades. You don’t get that in a Premier Inn. ( not knocking the Premier Inn) ||Room decor is basic but clean. No frills here. ||At the great price for one night I have no desire to pick holes
Popped in here on a Sunday lunchtime. Don't be fooled by the decor, it's a bit of a spit-and-sawdust environment but the food was great.||||A local recommended the steak and ale pie and my wife says the pastry was lovely and you could really taste the ale in it. Plus it was packed to the top with lovely meat.||||I had the gammon which came with an egg, tomatoe, mushrooms, chips, coleslaw and a small salad.||||All in all, very highly recommended to all.
We stumbled upon this gem on chance. We were looking for a pub which took dogs and had classic pub grub.
We found exactly that, the food was amazing and priced so well, it was almost too good to be true.
We also had two dogs with us and they were welcome straight away with a large handful of treats, water and lots of attention!
So glad we went in, staff were really lovely and friendly!
Greeted by friendly staff and checked in immediately despite the busy pub bar also being served. My room was roomy enough with the required bed, shower and also TV.||The room was also clean but it is in need of updating, for example, shower attachment on the bath taps is low pressure and the overall feel is out of date.||The downstairs bar and separate dining/function room also have the out of date feel but the place was very busy and is obviously a popular spot with it's excellent location. Once again, the staff are very responsive and provide your needs well.||I requested breakfast (paid extra) right on the start time and this was done without any problem, it was also very tasty and filling.||Overall, for the price I paid, this was a good value stay in this location.
Of all the pubs in town we returned here the most in our recent trips.... Friendly, down to Earth, reasonably priced, and the meals we had were tasty and good value. The Thai food was surprisingly good and a welcome unexpected addition to the menu.
