In the past I've driven past this chip shop and it was always looking busy, and quite often queued out if the door,just recently you never see the queues, and after trying it this Fri tea time I can see why, 2 medium middle cod and a large chips £19.70, as a previous review has written the large menu behind the counter which should be in full view to pick and price from has been left blank and replaced by some A4 menu sheets close to the serving tills, what a stroke !!!
Now the food... Huh, in general conversation people recommend places and I've always heard good vibes about this place, but I think I can honestly say this is the worst fish & chips I've ever had,so greasy the fish wouldn't even come out of the paper, it had to be scraped of the paper and full of bones, which is very dangerous, but the chips were acceptable,
Now for the customer service, this sour faced woman who I got served by,she shouldn't even be serving food in a prison, she obviously thought I had to bring my custom to this shop, but I'll tell ya something I didn't, it was the past recommendations why I tried, but never again, and in my work I speak to a lot of local people and in the whole city too.
This chippy will never get recommended by me and I hope the word gets around about my review, this is probably the reason there's no queues anymore
Sign up on wall saying PRICE INCREASES CHECK PRICES but there are NO prices on the display board behind the fryer!
Very expensive now, ordered normal meal which was around £15, added a regular cod & chips and a sausage and it was over £30.. Cod was dry too. Have used for 20 years but gone down hill recently.
Used to be a big fan, feel it has dropped standards recently. Poor chips. Fish with bones (all the time) soggy battered sausage.
Will give another chance because I'm local. Hopefully was just a couple bad days
I should of asked for a smaller overall portion enough chips to sink a ship

Fish and chips were good. Certainly better than average, there was a rather shockingly large queue at 5:20pm on a Friday but kudos to the staff they very quickly moved through the queue and were smiling, laughing and interacting with everyone in the shop. Top notch staff for sure and decent fish and chips cooked in beef dripping, the way the should be!
The fastest and most efficient service I've ever had in a fish and chip shop. Other chip shops could learn from here, various meals for 8 people served and wrapped within 5 minutes. And good food as well. Shame its 80 miles from home.
Ordered 2 extra large cod and feel that the size of it was more like a medium, More batter than actual fish by far, Chips were also poor. Disappointed
Not nice to eat as Fish is full of bones, therfore not an enjoyable meal as you are constantly worried in case you choke on a fish bone, Thorpe fish bar in our opinion so much nicer as fish is bone free.
