The Frog and Monkey Restaurant has become one of our favorites restaurants in Mount Dora. Located in the basement so for entering you have to walk down some stairs. Now, from the moment you walk in you will be greated by everyone. You can tell that a lot of the local folks visit this restaurant regularly. But then, why not. The first time we went it was so good that I forgot to take picture of the food!!!! The steak (ribeye) was cooked perfect! Very comparable to one of those famous steak houses. I tell you is so good that you will want to have it again. Also tasted a vegetarian portobello mushroom sandwich that you will not miss the fact that there is no meat. The fish and chips was excellent. The fish was cooked perfect and the chips were awesome. I opted for sweet potatoes fries. Now we went again and this time I took pictures.. and let me tell you I started on the soup and I was reminded that I had not taken any pics!!! AGAIN!
This time we both had the French Onion soup... the broth was tasty, rich, amazing! , the onions perfectly caramelized!!! what a treat. We also order the wings. The rub they used is amazing. I was trying to figure out the seasonings... So deliciously good! We also had a large Caesar's Salad and Teriyaki Chicken Salad.
Now, let's talk about the service... All the staff at this place from the wonderful servers that took care of us, to the bartenders to the folks in the kitchen will make you feel like family. So service is top notch at this place. Want to keep this place a secret. But The Frog and Monkey has become a regular hang out for us.
We visited this establishment on a Friday evening at around 6. We expected it to be crowded but it was a very empty. We were a little suspicious at first, but then we were told that it is busier after 7:30 since it is primarily a pub. My wife had the bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries and I had the fish and chips. The piece of haddock was as big as my forearm. The batter was light and flaky and delicious. I couldn't finish it all. I would definitely like to go back and try some of the other specialty burgers that they had on the menu.
When I walked in the door . I instantly thought of Cheers . This little place is awesome. Food was amazing. We had little ones so we ordered online . It was super easy and food was ready fast .
Pleasant meal and experience. I got the fish and chips. Very good. I liked the breading and the fish was well cooked. Atmosphere was great and the authentic pub ambiance was great.
Food could use slightly more flavor, but a good experience and the atmosphere I bet is great at night.
We did lunch, and everything was clean and well maintained. I would recommend you try this place out. And the town is a nice little getaway as a bonus.
Don’t let being in a Basement off an Alley discourage you. The Frog & Monkey Restaurant may be one of the best hidden gems of Mt Dora! A rustic basement tavern with some high end Craft Beer on tap and amazing pub food.
I got the Ruby Burger, think a Ruben but with a burger, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut; where have you been all my life?!?!? This was followed up by a rarity in the craft world, Tripping Animals, Triple Ever Haze, a hazy, smooth, juicy fruit sweetness Triple IPA with NO hint that this gem is 10%. Holy Geezus, I love this bar and would be a regular if I lived here.

A pub located in a basement.
Nothing wrong with that but all their food was just nothing special at all.
Waiters were to preocupied to joke with one another then to give the proper attention to the client.
Food was almost fast food with a bit of a twist.
And noise was terrible.
Quaint basement bar, great experience. Heard about the must-have burgers, so we had to visit. Fries and burgers were very good. Nice to have a place to visit that offers traditional beer on the menu. The service was excellent. Thank you from the Eastern Shore of MD. The only thing to make this experience better would have been a Frog and Monkey size L shirt (out of stock).
