Disappointing meal tonight having had very good experiences in the past
The menu was lacking in much imagination, no specials and the high quality local steak and seafood that used to be offered was not to be seen.
The crispy chicken salad was smothered in oil, not even a dressing, and as a result the croutons were soggy and the whole dish just tasted of (poor quality) oil.
The burger was ok, but other than very good fries there was no salad served with it.
Needs to up its game.
Just spent 2 nights here as a friends wedding was literally across the road. First impressions, lovely, cosey little pub. Room was fine, clean, comfortable and great facilities. The manager was poorly so looked after by a friend/ relative (sorry didn't get his name) as he stepped in. Really frirndly and helpful. Couldn't fault any of the staff. Breakfast was great. I had a steak the first night. Didn't like it, when I mentioned this, full refund, so happy. Overall great stay. The only thing that I have found really disappointing is the prices have been increased for my room personally by £100 because they knew it was a wedding. I know friends paid increased prices as well. I paid £215 a night for a room I can get next week at £115. This has annoyed me slightly as they have not had to do anymore for us than what they would have normally especially still in a quiet time. My room was not worth £215 a night so feel taken advantage of. I would recommend here but would check the prices charged before booking especially if you are going to a wedding locally and they know it!
We stayed for Valentine’s dinner and bed and breakfast on Saturday 11th February. The menu was exciting and special and the food absolutely delicious. Both the salmon and steak melted in the mouth, just perfect. We loved the dessert of three puddings to share. We were completely stuffed, but very pleasantly!
Our room was large and comfortable and the breakfast in the morning was extremely good. It was a real treat. We shall definitely go again.
The staff were willing and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We can thoroughly recommend the Fleur de Lys Inn.
I stayed here for a few nights in April 2023. It's a good spot to stay in the area.
Things I liked:
The bed was very comfortable. There was high water pressure in the bathroom shower. The staff of the pub under the inn were very friendly. Late at night, the area was very quiet. From the room I stayed, I could see the moon.
Things I did not like:
Till about 11pm, there was a lot of commotion which could be heard very well from my room.
Mothers day lunch,
Outstanding ❤️ food delicious, my soup was full of flavour creamy and warming, roast lamb was absolutely perfect, cooked to perfection, tasty tasty spuds and veg, finished with a luxurious brownie, again Outstanding, staff Outstanding, warm welcome for us with a two year old and the dog, really really friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Beautiful country pub, brilliant staff and really really tasty food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really disappointing last visit which I really hate to write about as I have very rarely left a bad review.
My husband and I had a wonderful first visit a while back and was so impressed with the venue, service and food (beautifully smoked meat, gorgeous taste) that we couldn't wait to go back. We were so excited that we had mentioned booking a roast there again but with our group of friends.
We booked a table of 12 (well in advance, approx 2 weeks). We were utterly disappointed to find out the only meat left was a few portions of beef and partridge but ordered nonetheless.
The staff forgot 1 order, partridge was too raw to eat and there were 1-2 roast potatoes on each plate - the portions were embarrassingly small! We spent over £700 in total on food & drink + £70 service charge which is a hefty bill.
A few days later I called to ask if we could get just a few of the mains refunded, at £20 a plate as we didn't feel we were given enough food and the quality was no where near as good as previous times. The Manager was lovely and tried to co-operate but in the end we were offered nothing apart from better service and few drinks on the house on our next visit. I don't think we will be returning on this basis or perhaps if we do, go just the two of us again as they clearly could not handle a large table. We're gutted as we thought we had found such a beautifully unique place but the last visit has really changed our opinion. Hopefully they will take these comments on board.
We had a wonderful evening. The staff were so kind and helpful, explaining all the dishes and very attentive. The food was out of this world and we had such a special evening we will definitely be going back!! I had the aged steak from a local butcher that tasted phenomenal and the seafood we also had was fresh and delicate, with a beautiful flavour. Cant recommend enough
Having stayed and eaten here several times in the last year while planning our wedding, I can say just how sweet the staff are and how delicious the food is. Our guests booked out the Inn for the weekend of our wedding and all enjoyed their comfortable stay immensely. Thank you to the team!
