I wish I could give 3.5/5. The previous chef was incredible, this new one was not as exciting. Only 4 tables on a Friday night. Service was good but quite quiet and I’m not sold on the food. Duck was fine, but way more veg than needed. Small
portions were not filling but it wasn’t overly expensive.
We were inspired to come here after seeing their head chef Charlotte on "Great British Menu" as her food looked lovely.
The inn is cosy inside but you can also eat in their lovely garden, with beautiful views of open countryside.
To get here you have to drive through several very narrow & windy country lanes with only a few passing places so you need to go along cautiously.
Once you eventually reach the inn, they have a nice spacious car park.
We went for Sunday lunch & there is a set menu which costs £28 for 2 courses or £35 for 3. I recommend the puddings especially as ours were both lovely.
They offer a wide selection of locally produced soft drinks & an extensive wine list.
They use milk from a nearby local farm in their cooking & hot beverages.
All of the staff were very friendly & attentive.
Went here on a week night and as soon as we walked in there was a lovely cosy feel to the restaurant, first we were seated by a fireplace with comfy chairs and we're offered drinks and menus.
The staff were all very friendly and attentive throughout our visit. When shown to our table we were presented with some fresh bread and balsamic vinagar before our first Course, the food was absolutely delicious, from the presentation to the flavours coming through each dish. Would definitely recommend visiting here, and hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
Dog friendly pub.
Great little place that we stop for dinner on our way down to st iv. Food were great using the local ingredients and support the community, the staff are excellent.
Recommended if you have a dog as their garden are also pretty big.
On the whole the food at the 5 Bells is good but not amazing.
The dishes are very well, sometimes excellently, presented but lack a wow factor in taste - though they are very good value at the price point.
The desserts are amazing which speaks to the herratige of the head chef Charlotte Vincent's Michelin star background.
On the whole it's a cut above your average gastro pub.
Great food and good service.
Had a lovely meal with the wife, the starter was outstanding with loads of flavour. The atmosphere was good with plenty of ppl but not so busy you couldn't relax.
What a very good experience... Lovely country pub, great staff and the food was excellent, scotch duck egg with sweet and sour picalilly .. beautiful, Hake with a rapeseed pomme puree... Excellent and to finish apple choux. Definitely be going back even if it is a bit off the beaten track ????????????
We had the most amazing dinner and evening at The Five Bells. Loved the beautiful food and the wonderful wine. James and Charlie couldn’t have been better hosts, and their staff are great too!!! Recommend highly.
