The best fish I’ve ever tasted, it’s so white and chunky, the batter is thin and the chips taste delicious also and not greasy.
First thing to mention is the cheerful and friendly staff, they were wonderful. The food was a good price, freshly cooked and tasty. I had the home made fishcake and it had a realky high fish content, delicious. Thoroughly recommend this place.
Tried the sample platter almost a year ago, taste OK. Tried again this time, price went up (understandable) but the quality was poor. Apart from the squid (which tasted like squid), others were quite bland, not unlike those frozen ones from supermarket (perhaps even worse than). Perhaps fish would be better as quite a few people ordered fish. But then, as far as freshness is concerned, it's hard to beat those from the fish&chips takeaway near the river. But the Fish House Ely has the advantage of being in a good location, could see that they are quite busy most of the time.
Our first trip to the UK and The Fish House was recommended by a local on the train we took. Great choice! Large portions, friendly folks behind the counter. Had some issues ordering because they don't take credit cards or American cash but we found a travel agency that helped with the currency exchange.
It's apparent that only 'fish & chips' customers are truly welcome lesser orders seem to get forgotten......or arrive much later .... totally unexceptable.
Not a one off happened on several occasions.
Very disapointed cod chips ,2 drinks a sausage £17, myself & friend visited fish House ely , it was very basic wood benches in back , busy, we find ely difficult place for good meal ,we actually fancied burger from farmers market ,but it was all Chinese Korean food pizza, Italian cafes ,we decided to go to bury st edmunds in future

I was dying for local fish & chips but when perusing the menu I spotted steak & kidney pie. The girl at the till asked me what I wanted so I gave her my order. Once ready she told me how much it was, so I pulled out my travel MasterCard to pay & was greeted with "cash only sir" & a tiny sliver of a notice at the bottom of the plastic shield was pointed to. So I put my card back in my pocket told her she'd have to put it back. I did say I had cash but not £s & left extremely disappointed that this business still works in the past.
