We had the fish chowder and honestly it was delicious – totally restaurant worthy. The owner was also lovely and very friendly, had a wonderful chat with her and another local from Stornoway. Great views too!
The must be one of the quirltest of quirky cafes that I’ve ever visited. But it was fun, if you like being thrown together with other travellers at one large table. Authentic thin porcelain china was used. The one person serving and cooking was clearly overwhelmed with the situation so I’d recommend avoiding cooked food and eating cake. Nevertheless, the seafood chowder tasted good.
A cute place with lots of local nick nacks and artwork. There is a dinning section with a long dinning table and mixture of chairs. There is also 2 armchairs at the window. The food was delicious, made fresh by the owner herself. Good atmosphere and very friendly.
The most unusual cafe i have ever been in the views are spectacular and the chowder was the best I've tasted the scones with cream and fresh strawberries were delicious the owner Fiona makes everything from scratch using fresh and local produce well worth the drive
Excellent service and food. Owner is very lovely and would highly recommend.
There's also an honesty policy for payment as WiFi coverage is limited, or cash
We didn’t know what to expect but once we push the door it was outstanding! Great host and amazing soup. Great moment shared with other guests around the table, view on the beach is absolutely stunning
Peculiar food (and human) experience on the edge of Gallan Head
Eating at The Edge Cafè was a peculiar experience, different from any other we had in Scotland.
Starting from how to book the meal: just go on it’s Fb page and write to Fiona. The website link on the page, will lead you to “Gallan Head Community Trust”, but no mail there.
About the booking, I must also say that we found an uncommon, pleasant willingness in Fiona: she’s supposed to close at 7pm, but (after a large prior notice) she accepted to welcome us at 8pm… Thank you Fiona :-)
Then we had to find the place, because no available pictures of the outside, and the sat/nav couldn’t get it. Ask to locals, they know, it’s the best way.
In any case don’t be scared about getting lost, when you enter a road with ugly houses looking deserted: it’s just the old RAF base, and the sign that you’re on the right way!
However you will be rewarded with a great view, when you get The Edge Cafè, and the cliffs of Gallan Head Peninsula.
The place itself was a surprise: a harmonious mix of different furniture styles, with a huge collection of tea cups, board games, tourist info about the area; besides being a little gallery and craft shop, selling works by local artists.
We shared the table with other people, because there is only one long table; and this was nice yet unexpected.
The menu too was a surprise: she didn’t tell anything, just started bringing a course, then another one, another one, another one… we couldn’t finish everything!
Good to know: the cafè doesn’t have licence for alcohol.
Price per value: medium/high.
Great little place where all the food is made right there and then for you, after you decide off a list of ideas. Whilst it is being cooked, the owner chats away and asks you about where you have been and you plans etc.
Would recommend to others and there was proper coffee!!
