We stopped here over memorial day weekend, and got out of our vehicles, and a man started yelling at us that he was closed. Other vehicles tried to pull in as well, and he just kept yelling that he was closed. And put cones up so no one could park. They close at 9, and this happened at 8:40pm… the line wasn’t even long. He was very unfriendly, and rude… we will never go there again. Sno Queen is MUCH BETTER
The owner or older lady taking the order's is RUDE. She is visibly annoyed if you take to long to order. We got the wrong item, we went back to window to say our order was wrong and they stated well that's not what was written down. I'm sorry it doesn't matter what was written on paper, if customer says it's wrong, it's wrong!
Hands down, the best custard ever. It's so much better than regular soft serve ice cream. Cash only, so be prepared for that. Despite all the reviews about rude staff, that has never been our experience. We have been coming here for years and staff is always great. Really hope to never run into the mean guy, he'd have to be REALLY mean to keep us away from this custard. ????
Haven't been up to Houghton Lake recently but today we took the tour. The Custard Cup was a welcome remembrance. The recommendation was Grand Traverse Black Cherry and it was extremely good. The service was quick and friendly. The price was good. Nice couple from Cadillac shared that they had rode their bike over to get "the real custard". We recommend The Custard Cup for a tasty treat.
This place is a small little Ice cream shop but I love it. They are very nice at least from my experiences and I go here A LOT. And I really like the Ice Cream
I really love the ice cream they have here! It's nice and thick, way better than other places. Every time I've asked for a twist cone, they always have it. They have a variety of dips you can get such as butterscotch, cherry and chocolate - which are getting harder to find lately. The banana split I ordered was awesome and the service was friendly. This is my new favorite place to get a cone! They accept cash, so have that available.
Heads up, cash only. I thought this was a decent place. I'm a bit critical of ice cream places as I love it so, have sampled from so many, and my kids and wife can't have dairy. The Custard Cup only had one non-dairy option available--basically a grocery store push pop ice thing in a few flavors. I thought the custard was OK and the butterscotch dip was so-so. Overall, there are many other great options available. So, not bad in a pinch, but there are better in the area.
My family and I have been coming to the custard cup for years. The most recent (and final) trip we took to the custard cup was the worst service I have ever received. It started out simple enough, with most of our order coming out right. Then near the end of our order we were given a wrong cone, which we told the employee was incorrect. She insisted we take the cone anyways so my mother took it and continued to discuss what the order was supposed to be, and politely asked for the proper cone. The employee then told her that she had already recieved a cone (the one we stated was incorrect), and refused to give her another. After getting nowhere just asking nicely for the order to be corrected, we asked to speak with a manager. I have never been treated so rudely. She insisted that once we held the incorrect cone (which her employee insisted we take) that she was unable to take it back because of health code rules. We said we understood, but still wished to receive what we had paid for. Not only did she refuse to give us what we had paid for or a refund, but she gave us a nasty attitude the whole time. I told her it was unfortunate that we would never be coming back because we had always liked their ice cream. Her reply was the single rudest comment I've ever gotten in a customer / employee exchange. She pointed to her long line of customers and told me "With lines like Disney land, I'll be fine without your business. " Apparently having good enough ice cream means you can be as nasty to your customers as you'd like.
