Update: why the negative, passive aggressive response considering a positive review and a 4 star?
Original: In the middle of a shopping strip in College Park, there lies quite a few new restaurants clustered together. And if you are like me, and haven't gotten around to trying The Current, you are not alone. Well, that is until Ash Wednesday came around, when it seems I might not have been the only one to give this gem a try.
The Current is a tasty new restaurant serving tasty New England style Fish and Seafoods. And it is tasty!!!
Honestly, I am extremely excited to have identified this restaurant as it provides a great option for fish, perfect for friends and family to gather and enjoy.
During my visit, I had a Grouper sandwich, delicately deep fried in a light batter, with fries on the side. I also added their Hush puppies as an appetizer and paired with a Narragansett lager.
The fish was just what the doctor ordered. There is nothing better than freshly battered fish, and the way everything was prepared made for an enjoyable food treat.
With that said, they have a full menu of different fish and seafood offerings, so if you aren't into fried fish, I'm sure you'd be satisfied with something else.
I appreciate the nod to New England with signs and Narragansett on draft. Personally, I hadn't had this beer (I'm not from the New England area) so it was cool to try something new.
Most of the walls were white with canvas paintings by local artists. I found the interior still rather unenthusiastic with the basic stool-style seating.
But once the food comes out, the interior doesn't matter. It's grub time.
The staff worked hard but I feel they were greatly understaffed and unprepared for the crowd. I waited almost 45 minutes for my food. Nevertheless, the food was warm so I was happy.
In the end, the food is great and I'm looking forward to going back again soon.
Definitely recommend!
Came in for a quick lunch with a group. I had the fish and chips which was perfectly battered and a sizable portion of fish. The fries were crisp and nicely seasoned. The slaw seemed more like a garnish but an understandable portion. Decided to splurge on some key lime pie because, well, it's key lime pie. Probably one of the best slices I've had, though not made in house, it was an excellent choice (Mikes Pies). Service was attentive even though I thought it was a sit and forget kinda joint. I'd recommend this place if you're in the mood for seafood.
My family and I had lunch here and ordered a variety of food. Everything was delicious, and the restaurant was very well maintained. What really stood was the excellent service. Our family had some dietary restrictions, and the chef personally came out to describe the different options. It was such a nice gesture.
First time here and we’ll definitely be back. We ordered the fried grouper sandwich, blackened mahi sandwich, and the hush puppies. I highly recommend all three. The mahi was well-seasoned, the grouper didn’t have too much batter on it, and the hush puppies were delicious as well. The excellent service and New England vibe tied everything together.
First time here, we will definitely be back! Great staff, delicious grouper sandwich with Old Bay fries and perfect ice tea. The restaurant is extremely clean. We enjoyed the loop tv of surfing and ocean life too! AMAZING key lime pie!
First time eating here. The lady at the counter was very nice and took my order. I had the grouper sandwich. It was a little small but super high quality. The fish tastes very fresh and had just the right amount of batter. The bun was super soft but stayed together. There was a nice fresh tomatoes slice, onion, and lettuce and some sauce. Very tasty. It came with shoestring fries that were very good. I got a side of fried okra which was done really well with an excellent dipping sauce.
My only negative is the small metal chairs. But I see them everywhere and they are not a big deal.
We got here right before lunch rush. Ordered food, and within a few minutes, we got our food. It was delicious and the quantity was just right. 10/10 would recommend.
We had it at the restaurant, my fish and chips were perfect, best of all time. The shrimp scampi my husband had was the best he had. Would definitely come back for some more delicious seafood.
Our before and after pics. The food was soo good and will definitely come back here with friends or family. When we entered the door the place smelled so good and it was clean with welcoming service. Thanks for the great food!
