We took two friends and their little dog with us to this quaint country pub, which we found was very friendly with a homely and welcoming log fire to combat a chilly Sunday. A bit off the beaten track but WORTH THE FIND. One previous visit for a music night and drinks. However, first visit for food which was delicious. Price was no more than I have paid before in other establishments and the quality of the food was first class. Excellent sized portions and very freshly sourced ingredients which was cooked to perfection. Will certainly visit again for another music night and food. Looking at the outside tables and layout, it would be lovely on a summer evening to have something to eat and a cool drink. There is also the vintage and various room to have a look at, with lots of lovely things to buy. Like the dog friendly aspect.||Lastly we didn’t see the bedrooms where visitors can stay, but if they are anything like the rest, I’m sure they would be very welcoming. ||Thank you Gloria and Steve, you were perfect hosts and wholeheartedly give you and your wonderful establishment a 5***** recommendation.
If you love good food ,comfortable clean and interesting pubs. This is a must do. |If you discover this pub by accident then lucky you. |We had a gorgeous sunday meal here and the portions are hearty . Lovely veg and roasties alongside yummy meat
A very cosy and comfy pub that is immaculate inside and out. A fun selection of animals await and it's dog friendly. Rooms were comfy and very quiet, good breakfast included. Would definitely return as very much enjoyed my stay. Within a short drive to Larmer Tree so useful base for events!
Delicious Sunday lunch, huge helping and perfectly cooked. Atmospheric Country pub, with log fires and lovely hosts. Also the added bonus of an antique room to browse, rummage and buy, should you wish. Highly recommend The Crown.
What an amazing hidden gem of a pub this is, set in a nook between rolling downland in a tiny hamlet. It's everything a traditional English pub should be, log fires, low ceilings with oak beams, great straightforward pub food served with smile by mine host and hostess, good beer, a very friendly black cat curled up on a chair, and even a den at the rear full of antiques and curios for sale. It's right off the beaten track and that's part of its charm. We had a very tasty and filling Sunday roast there and I can't wait to go back there again. Thank you, Steve and Gloria, for making our visit so enjoyable
Parked here with a view to doing a long walk and having lunch here afterwards. However as myself and my dog walked down to the road, about 30 yards, was turned on by the owner shouting at me telling me to put my dog on a lead. I explained I didn’t need to and never did as he was very well trained and was about to get onto the lane.He was so aggressive, I went and got back in my car saying it was such a shame as I had hoped to have lunch there. Started my walk from the neighbouring village.Never met anyone so unsuited to hospitality. Glad others have enjoyed it though.
Tucked away in a quiet corner this traditional 200 year old pub is not prone to be busy. Nevertheless it's well kept as is the Exmoor Ale and real cider, good value pub grub, nice beer garden tucked away at the rear, and accommodation. Landlord is a Beatles fan, and his pub is well worth a visit. Lovely real fire in the Snug and we were made very welcome. Check out the collection of antiques for sale too.
Stayed one night in this lovely thatched inn with rooms for the Chalke Valley history festival. A great place to stay for a weekend break from the city. The breakfast was fantastic. Welcoming and friendly staff. We would definitely return.
