This is a fun spot with a super cool vibe in an old church. The interior is really incredible and I love how they kept the stained glass windows and original woodwork. We came just for a beer before a dinner reservation and found the menu to have a lot of options. The servers all seemed annoyed to be there and super short when they talked to you which I think was the whole vibe and I kind of loved it. The beer and tap systems seemed to be working out great so overall, I definitely recommend stopping for a drink.
Seems like a place that was a big hit when they opened but has fallen off since. It’s a cool concept, but the food was basic/bland and the small list of beers were just okay. Wouldn’t go back, wouldn’t recommend anyone take a trip all the way up from downtown to eat here either.
This is a must go while in Pittsburgh! Very cool, old church they made into a restaurant/ brewery. The pews were made into tables and chairs. We really loved the whole experience. The wife said the beer flight was super tasty. Service was top knotch. The pizza was really good as well. Good view of the city. It's a fun, good tasting place!
Recently visited Pittsburgh with a group of people and we were all excited to check out this place. We arrived and there was an hour and a half wait to be seated, no problem! We decided to have drinks at the bar while we waited. As soon as we approached the bar, the bartender was obviously very overwhelmed. Her name was Madison and she was the most rude employee I have ever met in my entire life! She immediately told us “You’re going to have to wait, I have like 6 people ahead of you!”. Again, it’s okay, we understand the place was busy, no big deal! Once she got to us, one person in the group asked if the Riesling was on the dryer side, and her response was “the descriptions are written right underneath, can’t you read?!”. Then she advised that they were all out and she walked away. She comes back and the same person tried to order another drink, a Cabernet. Madison, again, stated they were all out of that too and walked away again. On the third time Madison came back, a different and third drink was ordered, being a Mule. When the Mule was ordered, Madison slammed the menu down in front of us. A comment was made amongst ourselves of “doesn’t she work for tips, that’s not a good way to act” (rightfully so), but was overheard by Madison. Instead of apologizing, her response was “hunny, one bad tip isn’t going to break my night”. When the Mule finally arrived, it was placed in front of another man who was not with our group. This sparked a conversation with the couple next to us who were complete strangers to us and witnessed all of this. They also told us that before we even sat down, Madison was complaining to them about her job and other personal issues, which I won’t go into detail about…. Just WOW!!!! Horrible customer service!!!! With that being said, the check was asked for after our one round of drinks. Anyways, Madison should not have a job where she has to deal with people because she clearly cannot handle it! It’s also safe to say, even though the building was beautiful, because of Madison, we will never be back. She ruined the entire experience with her very poor communication skills and lack of customer service!
We just got back from the Church Brew Works and what an amazing experience we had. The food was great, the service exceptional. Really a great place to stop and visit while in Pittsburgh if you are looking for a place to explore and have a few great brews. All kinds of flavours to enlighten your taste buds
Atmosphere is extraordinary. What a great idea and place. Thanks for having us as your guests. You are Canadien approved. Haha. Cheers!
This was my favorite spot when I was in college more than a decade ago. I was eager to visit again, but came to realize my taste and expectations have since changed dramatically since leaving the area. For the area it is pretty good, but if you are accustomed to eating out in larger cities you will more than likely be left wanting more.
The atmosphere is great. It's such a neat venue. I had a young tall man as my server who was very attentive and polite. The red ale was pretty darn good. Food was solid, but I'd say overrated still considering the review here on Google.
Will I return? Probably not.
The ambiance is great here, and the service was excellent. Food was ok, beer was decent with a fair selection, but enjoyed the visit.
This place is pretty darn amazing. Having grown up Catholic, it was nostalgic. To see the Latin verses on the walls and the spiraling vestibules and a beer brewing tank where the altar is. Something about a bar where the confessionals used to be all seems wildly sacrilegious - THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!
Seriously a legit converted church down to the dungeon type bathrooms. Great atmosphere and a TON of seating - well, because church!!
Food, not bad- had a salad. Not mind blowing, but good. Prices reasonable. Specialty beers avail, but I'm a wine guy so didn't try but heard from colleagues that the home brew was great.
Will def be coming back.
