Best KPortal Reviews
I really can't understand where all of the negative reviews are coming from for this Chinese?
I have eaten at this Chinese around three times and have always had lovely cooked Chinese meals.
The only downside is the length of time it takes for your order to be made. With one hour not been unusual for a wait. I suppose the weight demonstrates that they are cooking things from fresh?
Yes there is better Chinese but there is a lot worse too.
Give it a go I'm sure you will agree that is perfectly acceptable.
Re review. Mabey I got the stand in chef first time. Since then the food has been good. Good price will keep me coming back. Make sure it's not busy
Soggy prawn crackers, watery soup, no crab in the crabmeat and sweetcorn soup, which was a muddy colour. The salt, chilli ribs were soooo dry, with no onion, peppers, just gooey, flakes of garlic from a jar (not fresh). One of our main courses was missing (thank God) when we got home 15 miles away. EVERYTHING was very, very sweet including the hot and sour soup, which had really balsa woody, dry pork in it. Worst Chinese we have had for many, many years. We will not be back, ever! Food ended up in the bin, not fit for human consumption, or the dog. Don’t get stung, go elsewhere. Young lad taking the order wouldn’t even let me use the toilet in the restaurant. I had to go to the pub toilet next door. Slop!
Yum! The perfect spot when craving Chinese food on a cold, rainy night. For a very reasonable £17 We had a mountain of food: crispy noodles, egg fried rice, prawn toasts, sweet and sour chicken and crispy chilli beef. There would have been leftovers but we were so hungry we scoffed the lot!
Service was really friendly and our food was ready in 15 minutes - Just enough time for a quick drink at the pub. We'll definitely be back!
I've never written a negative review before because I used to work in the hospitality industry and I understand the pressures, plus even if it is bad I don't usually like to be rude. Therefore, I usually just give places the benefit of the doubt and don't make a fuss.
However, this really needs to be said.
So, we ordered:
- Crispy shredded chilli beef
- Lemon chicken
- Aromatic duck
- Spring rolls
- Fried rice
So as I said before, being a chef I can tell you with 100% certainty that all of the food had been cooked hours before and left in a hot cupboard (uncovered) then given a quick reheat. The chicken had been overcooked and left for at least 4/5 hours giving it the consistency of very hard cardboard. The duck was the same, clearly cooked hours and hours before and poorly kept, again like eating shredded cardboard.
I understand fully that places have to pre cook food especially when busy, but this was a very quiet Wednesday night and the only possible reason for how horrendous this was, is that the chef has been severely lazy. He/she has cooked everything when they arrived and left it all to dry out without even an attempt to revitalise it. It was so bad that it may have even been cooked the day before. Honestly the WORST food I have EVER eaten to the point I feel physically sick while writing this.
As for the sauces, syrup. That's it. Just syrup. Not even the right flavours.
As I said, I would never normally write a review, but this was just blatantly shocking. There is absolutely no way that chef can think that is acceptable!! I shouldn't even say chef actually because no chef made that food.
So sad that the only chinese takeaway in Duns just doesn't care about their food. About 50 minutes ago we collected our takeaway. Spring rolls were soggy (but tasty!!), aromatic duck arrived without spring onions & cucumber - duck was dry with a huge bone in it and rock hard, sauce was the same as my partners lemon chicken and the crispy shredded beef. Lemon chicken was rock solid also, like everything had been cooked and left under a hot lamp. Chilli beef basically chilli batter with a sweet sauce. Rice was black in colour. Such a shame as this would be our local, but can't honestly say i'd recommend or use again ????
Had a take-away on a Saturday night; consequently the food took about 45 minutes to be prepared. Most of the order was good, can especially recommend the lamb mains; we felt that the special Chow mein was bland though. Prices are pretty average for a Chinese takeaway.
Horrible food. Im staying in Duns almost 15 years. I have never tried food from Palace before, first time tonight. First and last time. Very dry, tasteless, meat is taste very old.
