We stayed here in September for 2 nights as we were 3 couples attending a wedding close by and so needed to stay the night before the wedding and the night of the wedding. Other guests from the wedding were staying at various other hotels in Lampeter, which we were told offered breakfast but this one did not. They have quite a few rooms by looks of it. They are reasonable priced and we all said that they were very comfy beds etc. The only thing is that as can be expected if staying on a Friday and Saturday night in a town which actually has a uni close and they will just have started back that there was quite a bit of noise during the night on the first night but as we were not back from the wedding until like 1am we didnt see anyone around on the Saturday night. There is a small car park around the back but quite difficult to locate as it is down a narrow little lane. All in all a pleasant stay.
During the Covid-19 pandemic we expected a similar high standard of cleanliness that we had found in the hotel we had stayed in for the first part of our holiday but found exactly the opposite and there were absoutely no coronavirus precautions in place that we were aware of. As far as we could see, there was no social distancing, no masks and nothing whatsoever to suggest there was a pandemic apart from a sign about Covid 19 distancing. ||We were not overly concerned about the iron mark burned into the carpet but there were lip marks on the dirty mugs left in our room, the shower did not work properly and there was a cup with coffee that was so congeealed that we were able to lift it with the spoon that was stuck to it. ||The smell was unpleasant enough but there was someone elses half eaten food, used tissues and food wrappers filling the drawer of the bedside table. Worse than that was the pillows which were heavilly stained brown by someone elses bodily fluids obviously over a period of years and there were stains that appeared to be blood and urine on the bed. However, it was the dried vomit on the mattress that was the last straw. ||Initially, we hd begun to go round with antibacterial wipes but the filth was far too exteme and it was obvious that it had not been cleaned for several months. We were genuinely worried to touch anything and it was impossible to stay in the rooms. Our daughter in law was in floods of tears as her room was just as bad and had thick black mould on the shower head and a decidedly nasty smell in the room. When we spoke to the manager he agreed that it was disgusting and apoiged repeatedly but blamed the cleaner and accepted no responsibility for himself. He did however give us the address of a B&B nearby. ||We were therefore forced to find another hotel very quickly and under stress. ||It was a miracle that we managed to find another place for the night but unfortunately, it was in another town so it was very late when we arrived and we were really tired. However, it was extremely clean, the owners were lovely and our room was excellent, so we had a fantastic time.||I can honestly say that the Castle Hotel Lampeter is the single most disgustingly filthy place I've ever seen and considering this was during the covid-19 pandemic it was also extremely dangerous to the point of life-threatening and the photos I've supplied really cannot do justice to the level of filth.
Room was clean and functional. Bed awful . Like sleeping on a board. Lovely traditional old pub though. Beer was cheap and the barkeep Alex was lovely. But for £45 for one night you can’t expect much.
All the good reviews on this place are lies go with the bad ones and you won't be disappointed. The brecon beacons are flatter than the bathroom floor . TV that didnt work . The whole place needs a revamp . Avoid this place at all costs cleaner's vacuum even has mud flaps attached to it .. I star is to much for this hotel (bail hostel)
Avoid this pub with rooms at all costs.
We stayed during Covid-19 pandemic and the hotel was dirty both outside and not very clean inside.
Tea/Coffee in the bedroom was black and solid it had never been changed for weeks. Although the soft furnishings were new/modern the carpet and bathroom were not.
Just avoid for a drink or overnight stay
Mixed feelings about The Castle Hotel. Room 7 was acceptable with clean sheets and towels, TV and free WIFI. Bathroom left much to be desired. Towel rail unuseable as it was hanging off the wall, toilet roll holder was hanging on for grim death, black mold around the base of the shower, apuddle of water in front of the sink after using the toilet and the sink, not sure where it was coming from, sink, waste or macerator! Maybe consider a proper net curtain wire instead of string and a coat hook on the back the bathroom door. Believe the owners should have used the opportunity of lockdown to run a simple, easy and cheap maintenance programme. Also believed the price included breakfast after reading previous reviews, Sadly not, had to walk down the road to Granny's Cafe and had an excellent breakfast, however this added an extra £17 to £70 one night stay.
I would like to think this is more of an advisory review than a moan. I’m not a fussy person but when you pay to stay somewhere you expect something in return. For example warm or hot water, flushed toilet, a tv that works etc. On arriving in my room after a hot day at work I was looking forward to a nice shower. The rancid smelling unflushed toilet should have been a warning. After turning the shower on and waiting for warm water for 20 minutes I gave up. It did get warm, in fact it was scolding hot, too hot to touch even. Without me touching any knobs it then went freezing cold, then scolding hot again. More dangerous than annoying. I visited the bar to ask to change rooms and was handed a different key. To my relief this shower became warm but flooded the bathroom as the doors didn’t close properly. The puddle was still there in the morning as I waded through it. Two heavily used toilet rolls, half filled shower gels and a tv that didn’t work summed up this place. On the up side the bed sheets were clean but I wouldn’t return. I feel if you want people to stay in an establishment you have to make an effort and provide simple things like hot (not skin shredding hot) water.
Not the poshest hotel out there but for £50 a night for 2 people I never expected it to be. Very hot water in the shower. Clean bedding and towels. Tv and coffee/tea. Looks a bit run down but it is an old building so has character. Would stay again
