A nice and friendly place to dine. We met up with friends and enjoyed a nice meal. We all enjoyed nice food with good service and friendly staff. We will definitely call again
This is one of my favourite places to come when it’s warm and the sun is shining?
It was busy but service was good.
We had baguettes which came with a salad and a choice of fries or hand cut chips.
I was pleasantly surprised at the price £8.50 as the baguette was large and the chips were a generous portion.
This is such a lovely pub, especially when the sun is out. You get the beauty of eating or drinking next to the river and seeing all the boats go past. It is always busy when the sun is out and they should definitely make the outdoor seating area a bit bigger. Food is always lovely and enjoyable however is a little bit on the more pricier side but don’t mind paying as it is good quality food. The do make that extra little bit of effort to make the plates look nicer too. The place has a wheelchair ramp and has disabled parking also so is easily accessible. We will definitely be back especially over the summer months.
Gave this place a try today having not been since before it closed and reopened under new management. Slightly put off by the more recent reviews, but here's what we found.
First the down side, we must have come during a lull, because there was no atmosphere whatsoever, and while the staff seemed mostly disinterested (which to be fair is better than false enthusiasm). Also, playing commercial radio makes the place sound cheap in a way that has nothing to do with money.
To be more positive though, that lull meant our food was served quickly. An 'XL' Sunday Roast with 'four meats' cost £18. Quality was decent at the price point. The pork was 'ok', the turkey 'good', and the highlight was the beef, cooked slightly pink and tender as you could wish. Plenty of fresh roast veg, decent gravy and Yorkshires. Portions were very generous on everything. In hindsight, I don't recall getting my gammon or extra Yorkshire, but I *really* didn't need it after clearing my plate, and I'm a big guy.
So really I want to give the place 3.5 stars, but I'll round up. If we didn't have the memory of the previous iteration of the venue for comparison, we'd probably have come away with a better impression. The real question though is 'is it worth returning?', and the answer to that is a solid 'yes'. If the new owners pay attention to a couple of details, and keep an eye on the quality of the food, it'll be great again.
First time back at this Pub for quite some time and what a disappointment. Only went for a drink but we were the only people left in the bar after 9pm and staff made it very clear to us they wanted us to leave so they could close early.
Such a shame it used to be a lovely welcoming pub by the river. It's still by the river but that's about all. By
We had a great lunch by the river here today. Service was polite, helpful and covid friendly. Beautifully set on the river so you can walk some of your food off after. The food was perfect we both enjoyed their twice fried chips with our meals and the gravy deserves a mention.
We finally got to do our Wedding Reception here in October 21, even though we have already been married for 15 months!!! We had the Captains Cabin function room! Alan and his team were fantastic, from start to finish everything was perfect! The food was amazing! The staff were well presented and efficient, nothing was too much trouble. All of our guests had such a wonderful time, we even had to pay the mini Bus to wait longer as no one wanted to leave!!! A great night! A huge Thank you to you all for making our special evening memorable!! Dawn & Colin Burgess
First time visit, will definitely go back.Went back today, wasn't very happy with my meal. But they changed it for a complete new one. So very happy. Will go back and recommend them to all.
