2 x Cod and chips takeaway with curry sauce and mushy peas. Great portion side, delicious cod, golden hot chips. Proper mushy peas and curry sauce. Yummy!! Good value with great service.
Nestled in the heart of our town, The Big Fish stands as a beacon of tradition and excellence in the realm of fish and chips. As a connoisseur of this classic dish, I can confidently say that this humble eatery offers an experience that transcends mere sustenance—it's a journey back to the roots of British culinary heritage.
From the moment you step through the door, you're greeted by the unmistakable aroma of freshly fried fish and golden, crispy chips. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, with charming décor that pays homage to the seaside origins of this beloved fare.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show: the food. The fish at The Big Fish is undoubtedly the freshest you'll find in the area. Whether you opt for cod, haddock, or plaice, each fillet is expertly battered and fried to perfection, resulting in a delicate crunch that gives way to tender, flaky fish inside. It's a testament to the skill and dedication of the chefs who take pride in their craft.
And let's not forget about those chips—they're a work of art in themselves. Thick-cut and wonderfully fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of crispiness on the outside, they're the ideal complement to the star attraction. Plus, they're generously portioned, ensuring that every bite is a satisfying one.
But what truly sets The Big Fish apart is their commitment to quality. From sourcing the finest ingredients to employing time-honored cooking techniques, every aspect of their operation is geared towards delivering an authentic and memorable dining experience. And it shows in every mouthwatering bite.
In addition to their stellar fish and chips, The Big Fish also offers a selection of other seafood delights, as well as hearty sides and indulgent desserts. Whether you're in the mood for classic mushy peas, tubs of curry sauce, there's something on the menu to tantalize every taste bud.
But perhaps the most remarkable thing about The Big Fish is the sense of community it fosters. Whether you're a regular patron or a first-time visitor, you're welcomed with open arms and treated like family. The staff are friendly, attentive, and always eager to ensure that your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional.
In conclusion, if you're craving a taste of tradition and a hearty dose of comfort, look no further than The Big Fish. With its unbeatable combination of top-notch food, welcoming atmosphere, and commitment to excellence, it's no wonder this charming fish and chip shop has earned a special place in the hearts—and stomachs—of locals and visitors alike.
Lovely people and outstanding food, I personally won’t go anywhere else after visiting the Big Fish a couple of years ago. Best by far
This place is a local favourite, and deservedly so. The fish and batter is always delicious, and the portions of chips are enormous. They're very much chip shop chips, so fluffly and floppy rather than crispy. Staff are polite and service is quick. It's often busy but the wait isn't too bad except at peak times.
Don't live locally but popped in to get two portions of fish and chips on a whim as a treat for my mum who is a Stroud resident.
Chip portion size was huge, chips themselves were perfect balance of chrispy outside soft inside, fish portion was just right with a nice batter. The biggest surprise was the price, almost had to do a double take as it is the most reasonable price I have ever come across recently.
My only complaint would be you don't have a shop closer to home for me in Somerset.
I saw a review that said "biggest portions of chips I have ever had" or something like that and the star rating was high so decided to get a large chips and sausage in batter. The chips ARE the biggest portions I have ever seen in Stroud, Cardiff and Guernsey AND they were crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. I was really satisfied with this and the price was really good.
My favourite ever chips! Traditional, family run chip shop with generous delicious portions at reasonable prices and kind staff!
Huge portions, lovely staff, great price. Would recommend The Big Fish to others!
