Previous reviews no longer valid. Under new management, quality, portions, atmosphere have all changed for the worse. Chips seemed like shop bought oven chips. Haven’t tried the fish but likely won’t be going back again. Such a shame. It used to be a wonderful place to go for food and enjoy the atmosphere.
Unfortunately the restaurant part has closed until a new buyer comes along.
However...the takeaway side is serving really tasty fish n chips and well worth trying. Altho the mushy peas were a bit wetter than I normally like..they were 'proper tasty'.
Well priced and the frying lady/server was really nice????????
There are about 1/2 a dozen picnic tables outside so you can watch the traffic go by????
We will pay a return visit sometime in the not too distant future x
Four of us went for Cod and chips in the restaurant section. Servers were polite, friendly and very efficient. The fish was cooked to order and was delicious. Would recommend a visit. Not cheap and cheerful like some other venues but it was well worth the money. Will be going back.
Have went to restaurant this afternoon. They now do Sunday lunch and it was very good. Well worth a visit
Had dinner there yesterday with family 8 in all and it was really nice, I think the well known fish and chip shop in Selby have got serious competition in Stones. The fish and chips were cooked just right and the staff were so pleasant and attentive. We will certainly be going there again!
Great fresh fish cooked when ordered so can take a little time but the quality was great. Under new management now so no longer Stones. Plenty of parking available on site and does either take away or eat in.
At the moment the restaurant is closed until further notice and is take away only
Some of the best fish and chips I've had. My Grandma had the senior special which was very affordable and she really enjoyed it. Staff are friendly and efficient. Very pleased with the service.
Very expensive- fish and chips were JUST that but at a price that you'd expect peas or curry sauce, bread and butter and a drink included! Thick end of £30 for fish and chips for 2 (one of which was a small portion) - won't be back at that price.
We just stopped here for a cup of tea and to use the facilities and was surprise to see an empty restaurant. We decided to have breakfast there and it was very good.
The service was outstanding, the food was excellent and the restaurant was clean and well furnished in a tea room style. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was that the absence of other customers making an odd atmosphere.
