Fantastic garage for car servicing. The staff are very polite and professional and give advice on any concerns, everything is very well priced, certainly recommend ???? ????
Purchased a car off of a man named Mike, Ed's mate on the 15/01/2024 with Mike informing me he couldn't move on the price as he was "going half" with his mechanic mate (Ed) upon sale. (I hadn't tried to knock the price down but from our "then" conversation I gathered he'd had a few timewasters.) The car had been in to Ed where he had replaced the clutch and carried out the work required for MOT. Mike had informed me that the car had covered 18 miles since the MOT work had been completed, as well as having had the clutch replaced. Rounding up as I cannot recall the exact number of miles we covered, no more than 60 miles on the car when the clutch started slipping due to the rear crank seal having failed resulting in contaminating the clutch with oil - due to the age of the car & given that rubber perishes, most people would replace the rear crank seal, gearbox input bush as well as driveshaft seals, although none of these were replaced and I'm now having to pay £582 to get this rectified at another garage as I can't be doing with bringing all my tools from Lincolnshire in order to fix. Despite being reasonable, I couldn't come to a resolve with Mike, who ended up blocking me. After numerous attempts trying to speak to Ed, another man took my details & Ed called back today, when I put it to Ed stating I wouldn't be in this situation if the seals were replaced whilst the box was off, (a common practice that doubles as cheap "insurance" he went off on a tangent about whether I would expect the alternator to be replaced etc with a generally poor attitude as he disliked the fact that I had questioned the way the car had been repaired.
Todays phone call (29/01/2023) Ed stated Mike & himself had both gone half on buying the car, which slightly deviates a little from what Mike said but is along the same lines - Ed ended up hanging up the phone wasn't able to reason with him.
Whenever I've replaced clutches I've always replaced the rear crank seal, input bushes / seals and driveshaft / diff seals and have never had this problem, therefore it's fair to see why I'm disgusted that this new clutch hasn't even lasted the 18 plus >60 miles that I put on it, now with oil leaking out of the bell housing because the rear crank seal hadn't been replaced.
Ed had stated that there was no oil in the "bell housing" and that may well have been correct at the time, although I highly doubt that the flywheel was removed to assess the seal as many are of the mindset that no leak = no problem when in fact preventative maintenance / replacement given that the old seal was assumed original (seals perish with heat / age) could have prevented this.
Selling it this way between them has nicely exempted them from The Sales of Goods Act as well as the Consumer Rights Act as it's not tied directly to the garage sale wise.
As I informed Mike, if it wasn't for me living in Lincolnshire (car is in Folkestone) then that car would have been back on his drive, to which he blocked me.
No apologies from Mike, or trying to sort it out, same with Ed just tantrums as well as poor attitudes, I believe these kind of people are only nice until something like this manifests.
It's not even about the money it's about principle therefore the next step is to notify Trading Standards even if it's something kept on file hopefully it prevents someone else being duped and having to deal with this "private sale but garage involved somewhere along the line" type of deals...
Form your own opinions by all means, but be careful of who you buy cars from in Staplehurst...
Highly recommend! Such friendly, honest guys! Always try their best to squeeze you in and get the work done quickly. Professional and good value for money! I wouldn't go anywhere else!
Had my car serviced here and he booked me in really quickly, very good price and even dropped my car back to my house! Will definitely be using again, thank you!
Haven't used for several years as they would not fix our car under the warranty. Wanted us to pay for it. Took it to Staphlehurst Garages who sorted out the new parts under the warranty.
Brilliant Garage. I always take my vehicles here and highly recommend them. Great prices and very efficient.
Quick and efficient and saved me from being robbed off as was £240 cheaper than what I was quoted by a garage who done my mot. Highly recommend
If you want car repairs well done sensible priced see ed he will sort you out
