Fantastic value for money. The hotel is a beautiful building that is a little shabby but is still lovely to stay in. We stayed in a family room which was very large and had everything we needed. There is a swimming pool available for guests within the lovely tranquil grounds. The breakfast, while not fine dining, was lovely. We had a full cooked breakfast and there was also the option of croissants, fresh fruit and yogurt and cereals. I would recommend and will definitely be returning for another stay.
Quirky old hotel that has an interesting history. Our room was in the main house and was comfortable and clean and a good size. With great views of the mature garden. Much of the old internal decor was tired and dated but had character. This didn't spoil our stay and the breakfast spread in the morning was plentiful. Friendly and helpful staff. Music room is breathtaking with huge chandeliers. Swimming pool is good. If offered rooms in the annex you could be dissatisfied.
Delightful old hotel tucked away from the road but only a short walk from the seafront. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are well appointed if not 'posh'. Catered very well for our large group of musicians. Breakfasts good: dinners serviceable. They cater for both groups and individuals/couples/families but I didn't see any packages offered without evening meal (correct me if I'm wrong) which would discourage those seeking to explore the culinary hot-spots of Sidmouth by night. Overall excellent value for money!
Our room was located on the top floor and thus the WiFi did not reach us at all and the water took minutes to get warm. Low pressure from the shower. The room and hotel would also benefit from some renovations as it looked quite old and worn in some places. Thin doors made people in the corridor quite loud and there was a lot of children staying at the hotel when we where there...
It was also a bit expensive (although we booked quite late so it might have been our fault...) and breakfast was quite OK.
However, the very friendly staff and the free to use indoor pool makes this hotel worth their four stars.
The hotel is set in stunning surroundings and we got a very nice and friendly welcome from the staff. Room was fresh and clean. At morning breakfast their was plenty of choice and the cooked breakfast was lovely. On check out again very friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
Our room was extremely disappointing. The mattress and sheets were damp. The mattress felt like it had not been changed in decades. There was no TV in the room and we were expected to use a shared shower and toilet that would not have been out of place in an 18th century asylum. We decided not to stay and returned to the front desk for a refund. The receptionist was clearly used to complaints and had a ready made scripted response that was effectively tough luck. She was very rude. While we were trying to get a refund another employee of the hotel was behind the receptionist who agreed that our complaints were justified while laughing at us. All of this cost around £90 and we were refused any refund at all. Not only should you not stay at this hotel, but the local health and safety inspector should pay a visit. Our room was not suitable for human occupation. I am disgusted in the hotel and it’s staff.
A beautiful and tranquil spot with a christian leaning. The food is wholesome and they cater for differing dietary requirements. The gardens are lovely and the swimming pool was a lovely and well maintained treat. Although I attended this place as part of group I would go again just with my family.
We have just had a lovely weekend in Sidmouth, and booked the Sidholme as it was reasonably priced and Sidmoth town centre was a 5 minute drive away. The hotel is dated and a bit tired, it could do with a luck of paint and attention to the externals, but was welcoming, our room was clean and tidy with a modern bathroom ensuite. I did find the heat in our room a little oppressive and resorted to opening windows, as I could not turn off the radiators. The hotel pool is lovely and set in the grounds of the hotel, away from the main house, it was heated and not busy so as I was travelling with children it was good for them to have a splash about and not annoy anyone. Breakfast was really nice with a choice of full English, continental and porridge. The only slight frustration was the speed at which the waiting staff wanted to clear the plates, with no discussion beforehand, just swooped in and boom, plate was gone ... I don't like that especially if other people in your party are still eating!! There is an 11.30pm curfew, so if you are going to be later than this a £5 deposit is required for the night key. The grounds of the hotel are lovely with good views. I would definitely book again.
