We visited for Sunday lunch and found everything to be of a very good standard.... Service was very attentive and friendly and the roast dinner was extremely tasty.... Top marks.... The real winner is the location, like a Cotswolds village and with Oundle 5 minutes up the road too.
Very impressed.
Myself and my elderly mother came for a wonderful meal today. The staff were very friendly and welcoming on arrival. They had the fire going which kept us very warm. We had the roast beef and it was fantastic, very tender and not chewy ( which you don’t get often) very highly recommend for a meal or a drink.
Great rural setting very quiet.. A very old buildimg from the outside but very upto date inside . A fantasric host Geogia made our stay a good one. 3 rooms across the yard, very clean and comfortable beautifull bathroom really large.|Enjoyed the break so much rebooking for 2 months time
An empty car park is never a good sign on a Sunday lunchtime.
A lovely pub, nice staff and a friendly welcome. Pub was cold on arrival and we were not the only guests to comment.
Food was nice and hot. 4 of our family opted for roast beef which was very over cooked and incredibly chewy and I couldn’t cut most of it which was really disappointing, there are no excuses for that! Veg was ok, a bit soggy but edible.
Really sad to leave the above feedback, what should have been a lovely family treat turned out to be really disappointing.
My partner and I love this place, Georgia and Paul are the perfect hosts and always give 110% customer service, nothing is too much trouble and will always go above and beyond to ensure the customer is happy. Lovely location and the Alpacas are a lovely treat to see when sitting in the garden with a cider!
This is one of the worst examples of misrepresentation I have seen. We were in the area for a schools sports competition, so I organized for several parents and their daughters to have a nice dinner somewhere.
What sold me on this place was the website description of Freshly Battered Fish & Chips on the menu. Together with the presence of lobster and the homemade curry of the day, I gained the impression there was a serious chef at work.
So I booked 11 of us in. Maybe the ease with which I made the booking should have been a warning sign. When we looked at the actual menu, there was no sign of the lobster. The fish was described as PRE-BATTERED, in other words bought in like that from a supermarket.
When I enquired about this, I was told that price rises made it impossible to provide fresh fish for the money and, "we haven't had time to update the website". Well, they could have told me on the phone upon booking, couldn't they?
So I ordered the curry which the proprietor described as "delicious". It was well-nigh inedible:. completely bland and suspiciously white pieces of tough chicken suspended in a store-bought sauce.
I have a solid reputation among my friends for being able to sniff out a good eatery, and I chose this place from among many options in the area. My reputation took a really bad knock that day.
But lessons learned I guess!
We turned up on a Friday lunchtime without a booking as we went a few months ago and previously had wonderful food. We weren’t aware it had new owners or been closed, just felt lucky to just get a table as not booked. The decor, friendly atmosphere, service and food were all truly wonderful . We had two Christmas turkey dinners which were gorgeous and we have to agree with other reviews about the sticky toffee pudding being amazing (as was Christmas pudding)! We would recommend to all but as word spreads again that it is re-open and fabulous it will definitely worth making a booking I think!
Enjoyed succulent meals at Shuckburgh Arms & great service with a smile from Georgia & Paul. |After a pleasant Sunday hike our party of 4, we're made to feel very welcome . We ate inside, as a breezy April sunny day. Thatchers draught cider, Guinness on draught & also London pride were enjoyed. Comfortable seating whilst selecting meal choices from reasonable varied menu. Three succulent beef roasts, one house special beef curry - all great with good portions. Sweets delightful . Paul & Georgia as hosts were excellent , good value for money meals . Watch out for a secret 'service' announcement that is well founded. A good size rear garden area .|
