My husband and I stayed for 1 night in August. It was a perfect stay in every sense. We had one of the larger rooms with bleu/blanc palette with a private deck. The room is beautifully decorated and the attention to detail is charming. The hospitality of the owners was just right. We were served a delicious breakfast with homemade jams and eggs from the chickens in the garden. The 3 dogs were heartwarming. ||We would gladly stay there again.
Wow. What a place. This has to be THE BEST B&B we have ever stayed in. ||||Jolyon was a fantastic host the moment we arrived, and day and night. He made us feel very welcome. We had free roam of the house and gardens which was so lovely as usually you are banished to a wing of a property. He was always asking us if we wanted a drink, he cooked the most amazing breakfasts every day using local ingredients and he was always cheery and smiley. We had a mutual love for gin it transpires so we had a super time watching Nadal and Federer in the semi finals with a glass or 2. The setting is just beautiful. The grounds well maintained and if you get a chance, watch Jolyon feeding his 22 ducks every morning. It’s absolutely wonderful to watch. There are also 3 gorgeous little dogs who give you a welcoming lick every time they saw you. The house is set in the heart of the countryside, allowing for peaceful mornings and evenings. The rooms were gorgeous too. ||||It’s very clear that they absolutely love what they do, and know how to look after their guests. We will definitely visit again. ||||Thank you so much again Jolyon and Lawrence. Lucy and James xx
What a delightful, friendly, comfortable & relaxing place to stay. The rooms are both incredibly well designed & comfortable. The hosts are warm & welcoming. Set in large garden with small lake I imagine this would be a beautiful place to stay any time if the year. Reasonably priced too.
My husband, son, daughter in law and little grandson stayed one night as a Birthday treat for our son on 6.12.19. We received a warm welcome by Jolyon and intoduced to his Mum and friend staying, it felt like we were family guests especially as we joined them in the lounge after we had been out for a meal (The Bell, Ticehurst...exceptionally good). Wow what Christmas decorations! Laurence definitely has a flair for this! (Made us a little anxious with a toddler around though!) The rooms are tastefully decorated of a high standard. Our breakfast was delicious and relaxed enjoying conversation with other guests and Mum. Interest was taken in our little grandson and feeding the ducks and collecting eggs was timed when he could go out too. Helpful advise was given on where to go (Bewl Reservoir..lovely walk) and Saturday lunch (The Vineyard..another super meal). Would highly recommend.
We stayed in the deluxe king suite and weren't disappointed. The room was wonderfully quirky, full of character and done to an outstanding level. All mod-cons were included i.e. USB power sockets, integrated central heating, lighting etc... We enjoyed Joylon and Lawrence's company immensely and the dogs too - (which my partner in particular loved)! They couldn't be more friendly, helpful with i.e. restaurant recommendations and local attractions. On the last day Joylon waited to feed the chickens & hens so my partner had time to sit outside and watch. It's things like that really meant a lot to us. To top it off the garden, pond & surroundings are gorgeous in a great secluded spot. We'll definitely be back.
Despite our last minute booking, Joleyon and the dogs were outstanding hosts - and we were so pleased to find this rural gem.
Behind the gate to Shoyswell, is a verdent garden oasis. You're then greeted by three charming dogs competing to say hello and show you about.
We were then asked to be guinea pigs for high tea that they're thinking of offering. And so we had to indulge in scones and cream and tea from fine bone china when we arrived. It was all very taxing... And then we were introduced to our room with the most wonderful bed.
Joleyon then gave us excellent local dinner recommendations. All in all, a great place to stay!
Just returned from a one night stay at Shoyswell Cottage. From the moment we arrived, Jolyon the host made us feel so welcome. The location is wonderful, the gardens and pond surrounding the house were beautiful. I'd describe this "Boutique B+B" as a one of a kind. The rooms are fabulous, the lounge and bar area very homely and we were cooked a lovely English breakfast this morning. All of the previous reviews were right: this place is fabulous! Thank you Jolyon. You should be very proud of your establishment!
This was our first stop upon arriving in the UK. We were exhausted (jet lag) upon arrival, so the warm welcome by Norman was so appreciated. He made us feel at home immediately. We had a wonderful home cooked breakfast in the morning to get us started. Our room and the house were beautiful and provided us the comfort we wanted after a long day of exploring. The three dogs, Muffin, Lola and Tiny were a joy to be around. It was so nice to stroll through the back yard and just relax after a long day.
