I had a conversation will a person on 111, when I couldn’t see my GP. He advised me to go to the walk in centre straight away (suspected stroke), if, on phoning back, I could not be seen at the surgery immediately. He forewarned the walk-in centre, and told me and them I should be seen within 6 hours. It was 5 hrs 45 minutes when I was seen and was told to go immediately to A&E (so 12 hours since the event). I was seen quickly in A&E, but it was after 6pm by then, so I couldn’t get a head scan (which was the main reason for going), as scanning had closed for the day.
I was referred to the walk/in centre last night 30 January by 111, having failed to get an appointment with my GP. I feel
Compelled to write and praise both the triage nurse and doctor who saw me. It’s been a very long time since I felt truly cared for, listened to and reassured and not rushed out the door after 5 minutes. It was extremely busy and no doubt they would run well over their finish time, but still they gave me all the time I needed.
Please pass on my praise to them; I’m sorry I didn’t make a note of their names, but the NHS is blessed to have staff like this.
After feeling unwell I had to visit the Walk in Centre due to not being able to get a GP appointment. I waited around 4 hours (expected this) but can’t fault the care given. I was given medication on the spot, and they took payment for the prescription at reception which was much easier than having to rush to the pharmacy before it shut.
The triage nurse was the least friendly person I have ever come across. There wasn’t a caring bone in her body. Being greeted by an angry pit bull would have been more pleasant.
The advanced practitioner was really friendly but sent me to a&e, where I was seen and told the same thing he told me and that he could have put the referral in to ent for me so my trip to a&e was a waste of everyone’s time, resources and money! Overall, disappointing!
Felt compelled to leave a review today after my experience.
I went to the walk in centre in a bad way, having been suffering from violent panic attacks for some time which had manifested into some awful physical symptoms.
I will say, the guy on reception was painfully rude and the first woman I saw to triage me was the least personable person I’ve ever met, very cold and blunt. That being said, she just looked generally miserable in her job and I was with her for 1 minute at most.
I was asked to wait to see a doctor. I wish I’d got her name - she was smaller, dark haired tied back - she took the time to listen to me and asked in depth questions about my experience. She took the time to do detailed tests and advise me on the best treatments I could get moving forward. She was so warm and empathetic, she even hugged me when I got overwhelmed and offered me reassurance every step of the way. She expressed genuine concern and care for what support I had in place and gave me the time I needed to process the information.
She honestly calmed me down better than I’ve been able to do for myself and it was an interaction of such human warmth and empathy that I won’t soon forget.
I can’t thank her directly so I thought a review is the best I can do. They’re lucky to have her.
Went to the walk in centre as gp was shut and I’m pregnant with really heavy bleeding. Did a urine sample and the first doctor who was so lovely did a routine check up and was concerned with how much I was bleeding and told me they would need my urine sample to check about pregnancy and for other infections. Was then seen by another male doctor who was VERY passive aggressive and rude. He said ‘what do you want’ when I came in the room, told me he couldn’t give me an explanation as he ‘wasn’t there when I was bleeding’ and when I asked if it could be a miscarriage he told me ‘If you’ve miscarried, you’ve miscarried’ which extremely upset me. He then told me to bin my urine sample as he wouldn’t be looking at it and I was told to leave. Apparently this hospital isn’t ‘licensed’ to do any tests or even a vaginal swab???
I have extreme anxiety about going to hospitals and this has really put me off. This doctor needs to learn some compassion and I don’t think he is in the right job.
Thanks so much your help yesterday evening. Special mention to Verity and Joann (though you were all great!). All the best, Chris (bad back) and Kath (who forgot to mention chemotherapy to start with...).
Went this morning with my 5 years old, who had temperature and bad coughs for weeks, and 4 stars for the long waiting hours of 4 before we finished, however 5 stars for the staff. They were very pleasant and helpful. When I then had trouble with getting the prescribed medication, after being to 4 pharmacies and all out of stock. I had to ring back for alternatives. They helped straight away and got it sorted for my poorly daughter. I called back and thanked them for the efforts. It's not the staffs fault, but NHS as a system is broken and what got it worse off is Brexit.
