Had a lovely stay at the B&B ! Ishbel the owner cud not do enough for us, after my husband got admitted to the hospital with the foot injury when camping on Mull . Place was immaculate, considering dogs are welcome! nice white bedding and towels, choice of tea and coffee as well as biscuits in our room. Range of continental breakfast was accommodating, variation of fresh fruit and yogurts, cereals and muesli, croissants and scones etc. Would most definitely recommend!
This was one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in. The owner was a lovely lady who could not have been more helpful. The house was clean, warm and welcoming. The bed and shower are excellent. One of the best features of the B&B is the closeness to the town centre without actually being in the centre. Its a short walk into Oban passing the likes of Tescos etc as well as shops and cafes.
I had a great stay at the Sgeir Mhaol, Ishbell (the owner) was friendly and very accommodating! As I was on placement, I stayed for 5 weeks and experienced continual high standards. My room was furnished very well with plenty of fresh towels, tea and coffee supplies and fruit. Ishbell could not have done more to ensure that I had as comfortable a stay as possible, would highly recommend the Sgeir Mhaol to anyone!
We arrived after a long day of travel and not seeing the bell at reception called out a few times. No answer so we proceeded to our room, door was open so we dropped some things and went back to the car for our luggage. The owner came out the side of the house and yelled at us to move the car- she could have asked nicely. When we went to our room she saw our things on the bed then proceeded to yell at us and tell us how rude we were to enter her house without permission. She repeated several times how rude we were even after we apologized and explained the circumstances. We then stated that if she did not want us as guests we would find alternate accommodation at which point she became nice and said all was okay. We did not see her again until we left 3 days later. I booked through airbnb but had I read these TripAdvisor reviews and the extremely rude and unprofessional responses, I would never have booked here. Room was very small with no place for clothes or luggage. It is a quiet location and the walk into town is not far but is not the nicest area to walk after dark, even as a male/female couple.
Stayed here for one night recently. While the room was clean and comfortable I found the guest house owner to be extremely rude and unprofessional. This made for an uncomfortable stay. I have travelled extensively and stayed in many guest houses in Scotland. I can honestly say that I have never come across such rude behaviour from a guest house / hotel owner. I would definitely not recommend this guest house
First of all I want to emphasize, that this is my first Tripadvisor review and I usually don’t do reviews. But after our experience in the Sgeir Mhaol Guest House I felt I need to do it to prevent others having the same one.||I was doing a trip to Scotland with a friend and I started planning the trip nearly 2 month prior to our arrival.||Especially when you come from abroad and have holidays I think it is very important to know where to stay in the evening and have a breakfast in the morning without searching for food.||In Oban I have chosen the Sgeir Mhaol Guest House. The advantages where the big parking lot, the distance to the centre and the pictures on their homepage. Also the many good reviews in Tripadvisor influenced my decision. I did not care about the few bad ones, which should be a big mistake.||I booked a twin room which included Continental Breakfast for the end of May and received an E-Mail confirmation for that.||As we arrived on the parking lot of the Guest House we were welcomed by a lady, it must have been the patron, in a little snappy way. “What can I do for you?”. I told her my name and that I have a reservation for today. She replied: ”That’s right park your car and come in”. We had barely got out of the car when, she came out of the house again and told us in a quite rude way, that we don’t have a reservation for today and we are expected one week later.||I told her, I definitely have a reservation for today and I can show you the confirmation I have received. She did not even look at it and forced us to come to her PC, through the uninviting rear corridor ||On here monitor was a reservation for one week later. During the discussion I detected, that it was a reservation for a completely different person. After that she asked again for my name and then she found the reservation. I said to myself, OK, don’t care about that, this could happen to every one of us. But after that, things got worse. We were led to our room, which was quite nice, the only bad thing I could say, was the entrance of the bathroom. It was nearly blocked by one bed. But who cares when you stay only one night.||In the next conversation we were specifically told , that this Guest House does not serve breakfast. I was a little confused, because I was sure the confirmation was with breakfast and I do not book rooms without breakfast. The discussion started again. I looked on my confirmation and there was clearly written “including continental breakfast”. I tried to show her the confirmation I received, but again she did not even look at it. After that she started to get very very rude. Asked me when I have booked this room. After my answer she only replied, now it is without breakfast. Now I will not do a breakfast. No appology, or no suggestion how we can solve this problem. After again trying to show her, her own E-Mails, she told very rude OK, “I will give you the room for 5 Pounds less. Is this that what you want???” I said still quite friendly, no, I wanted the room as I have booked it. This was too much, she became outraged and used foul language and threw us out of the house like beggars. We left the house accompanied by many rude words and she smashed her own door!! Back in the car we both looked at each other and did not believe what has happened. I asked my friend if I had misbehaved in any point of the discussion that maybe justify this behaviour. He said NO. At the end I can really not recommend this establishment. It was my worst experience I have ever had in Scotland and the UK and I slept in many B&B’s and hotels all over the country. The way we have been treated here, is absolutely intolerable. For previous guest from Germany, believe me, this is not the place you should stay in. I will not write the words here, which she said to us. We are not welcome! For all others decide, yourself if you want to risk a welcome and a surprise like this.||At the next place, I will say thank you very much to Morven of Kethmore Guesthouse right beside. She helped us finding a new and better accommodation with a warm welcome in the Drumriggend. B&B a few meters up the hill, she herself, unfortunately had no vacancies.
Nothing was too much for Ishbell. She provided an extra bed for a surprise 5yr old visitor and made us feel very welcome.||The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds exceptionally comfortable. Despite there being no breakfast, the room offered numerous snacks, fresh fruit, bottled juice / water, tea and coffee.||We utilised three rooms and all offered the same level of cleanliness and comfort. ||We will definitely return.||Thanks again Ishbell.
Fantastic place, homely, mega clean and brilliantly priced. Covienently located for Oban Central being short ten min walk, plenty of parking space in the rear. Super hosts who were hugely helpful arranging our last minute booking and accommodating our dog. Would absolutely book again.
