Having eaten from both Chinese restaurants in Donington a few times before making my decision. I actually prefer the authentic Chinese taste from Seng House, the spicing is on point for my taste palette and I find the Thai approach at Sunlight sometimes too sweet and less spice for my liking. The portion sizes on most of the dishes are fantastic. We’ve had the odd meal that hasn’t been as good but we can’t expect perfection everytime. If you’re looking for good Chinese food at an affordable price then look no further.
Good portion sizes and certainly nothing was underdone. Rice, chow mein, chips and crackers were all very good. S&S sauce was a bit tangy but not bad. S&S pork balls were tough and overdone. Duck in plum was lacking in flavour. Large pancake rolls were a huge disappointment by being over-battered and using the same doughy batter that is used for the S&S balls instead of the more traditional wrap pancake batter that you should get. Ended up scooping a tonne of dough out of the pancake rolls that would likely have given me indigestion. Wasn't the cheapest either. Hope they make some improvements to bring it back to how it was when it was Donington House (then Ming House after that).
Was reasonably priced. Had chicken chow mein & chicken omelette. Both absolutely delicious and hot. Best fries I’ve had.
Tried them for the first time since living here (always used sunlight across the road). Got to say the food was a lot nicer and the customer service is lovely. The lady at the counter is very sweet, even put down her own lunch to take my order when I startled her by accident. Very impressive Chinese and cheaper than sunlight.
I feel bad for writing this review since the lady at the counter was lovely, but unfortunately, the food was the opposite.
Most of the food was stale which we could handle, but the worst part was the chicken. It had a very slimy texture and smelt of bleach/ammonia for some reason (seemed to be a sign of expired chicken). When we got to this part of the meal, we were worried eating any more could give us food poisoning and had to throw the rest of the food away. This hands down has been one of the worst meals of my life, I hate wasting food but it was honestly inedible, and the state of the interior has caused concern of hygiene in the place.
I'm not sure if we just had an incredibly unlucky experience, from reading other people's reviews here, or people have very low standards for local takeaways in this area.
Food is very good, friendly owners so I am not bothered about the decor that's not what I go there for
Excellent take away again. We don't live in the area but travel to make a day out so we can incorporate going to Seng House every month. Chicken and chips meal lovely, good portion size, well cooked and tasty. Same applies to Singapore Chow Mein . Place looks slightly run down but don't be put off by this and can't fault the service and food.
This place had been recommended, ordering was easy but the food was disgusting, won't be wasting my money there again
