Best KPortal Reviews
A family-owned restaurant with authentic Japanese atmosphere. There are only 4 tables (2 person each) inside and reservations are highly recommended because the place operates only a few hours a day. The reservation implies that you eat fairly quickly (in around 1.5 hours) and leave. The food was tasty. I did not find anything exceptional compared to less authentic sushi places. They treated us to a bowl of miso soup on the house but strangely only gave us one bowl for 2 people while people at the neighbouring tables got a bowl each. The eel with rice was a simple dish with a good portion size and predictable taste. All the nigiri sushi featured very fresh fish and tasted well. The rolls were not super carefully wrapped (which was not a problem) and were fairly small for the price - e.g. had 4 or 6 pieces. The Japanese style carpaccio (usuzukuri) felt like a joke - we ordered the option with scallop and it seems like literally a single scallop or two sliced in 8 tiny pieces. The price felt off for that one. The plum wine was tasty and they have a selection of ~4 kinds of sake. The pancake with matcha as a dessert was nice, but nothing exceptional. The ice cream with sesame seeds was very interesting and unusual and I recommend trying it if you are there. Overall the place gives you authentic atmosphere but the value for money seems fairly mediocre. Note that this is not a fancy place and you will hear noise from the staff washing dishes at the kitchen etc, and your clothes will likely smell after the visit
A tiny hidden gem in west London. They can only fit 8 people in the restaurant and max 4 people per group so make sure reserve or go in off peak time. Must try the unagi (grilled eel).. it’s melting in your mouth. It’s been a long time since I eat a great thick and creamy unagi. Also worth the price with no service charge.
Delicious, and reasonably priced authentic Japanese food. I really debated sharing the little gem of a restaurant- simply because it has 8 tables and I want to keep it to myself. The owners are welcoming and knowledgeable, the vibe is intimate and genuine japan. The feeling is 'slightly smug and in on a secret of great food in London'. Enjoy! I just hope you don't book a day when I need a table!
A little cute Japanese restaurant in Chiswick, off the main road on Devonshire Road where you’ll find a few independent restaurants & shops. The seafood was very fresh & nicely prepared. The fatty tuna sashimi definitely was our favourite, it just melted in our mouth. Another dish to point out was the Scallops Usuzukari. They described the dish similar to carpaccio. Eaten with a bit of spicy yuzu zest (I think) & dipped in ponzo sauce. The Karaage also deserves a shoutout, it was so chunky! Very juicy & tender on the inside. I loved every dish and would totally order everything again.
When I said this was a small restaurant, I really do mean it. It can only sit 8 people & they have very short opening times. Make sure to book cause I think they only do one round of customers then close up. The restaurant itself was casual and quiet. Very simple, no faff vibes. It was quite relaxing sitting in there & just enjoying the freshly prepared food. Didn’t feel like I was in a city. I loved the handwritten menu with the little illustrations. Also the handwritten special dishes on the wall. The staff was lovely, pretty sure it’s an old Japanese couple that owns it. They also seem to like cats as I noticed a few cat items. This is definitely a place to add to your list of you love good traditional Japanese food.
Do not hesitate and reserve a table here asap! As someone who spent 14 years in Japan, trust me, this a hidden gem I have been looking for in London! The food is delicious, for some dishes even better than in Japan… the atmosphere felt like I was back in Tokyo… the Japanese couple running it are very friendly and welcoming!
Tips:
- book in advance
- ask for おすすめ chefs recommendations for the day, and order those!
- groups of 4 max
- try the “double decker eel bowl”, it is mouthwatering
Exceptional quality of raw fish! Delicious evrything what we’ve ordered. Highly recommend! Our order was: Himechirashi(sashimi on bowl of sushi rice) & Barachirashi (small cut variety of raw fish on bowl of sushi rice) & Negitoro roll (chopped fatty tuna and spring onion roll). Black sesame ice cream was so tasty too!
Guys you must try the Rokkon Don- THE BEST SASHIMI DON IN LONDON and you won't regret, trust me.
Nothing can be better to reward yourself a delicate Don takeaway with passion of Japanese food after as stressful day or simply just visit with a friend in the heart warming tiny place! Absolutely worthy.
The cutest little Japanese place. It's run by a couple, they have three tables and make everything fresh. Simple and excellent dishes made with quality ingredients. We pop by for a takeaway or eat in every so often and the quality is consistently amazing. (and we are talking about raw fish here!) By far our favourite Japanese in London.
