A great warm ,friendly welcome from Heather. Nothing to much trouble .
A little gem of a place, proper little local. Customers very friendly.
Nice clean, warm room comfortable bed.
And best of all a stunning full English breakfast. Cooked superbly and brought out piping hot which is a rarity theses days.
Hope I get to go back .
Been here a couple of times now and will keep going back. Landlady so friendly and always remembers you. |The food is absolutely beautiful with proper home made chips!! (Don't get those most places now). The meals are excellent value for money.
Heather is a friendly person & was very flexible with my late night returns. Room was comfortable and clean. Only thing that bothered me was a very strong perfume/detergent smell in the bedsheets. Breakfast was delicious & they catered to my gluten free needs. Would stay again!
I stayed just one night and opted for a double for single occupancy. The bed was really comfortable and the room spotlessly clean. Everything you would need was provided - kettle, mugs and plentiful supply of tea coffee & milk, shampoo, shower gel and soap with a huge fluffy bath towel, large flat screen TV and even a settee. There was ample drawer and hanging space (a couple more hangers would have been nice).||The shower (no bath) was modern and easy to operate with a good pressure of hot water. Basic but comfortable and all for £40 including a good standard full breakfast.||||For my evening meal I chose steak and ale pie which was obviously home made and with a really generous portion of lean and tender meat chunks and not a hint of gristle - very tasty indeed and all for the ridiculous price of £5. Add to this a good selection of well kept beers and lagers (San Miguel only £3) and I was well set for a sociable evening.||||This is a proper pub with no frills, no luxury, basic furnishings and some colourful local customers (with language equally colourful at times) but very welcoming and friendly and superb value. NOTE - take cash as the ability to give that great value is assisted by not accepting plastic.
Lovely 4 course Christmas dinner for £15.95 all good home cooking nothing processed. A group of ladies who had to cancel their Xmas dinner party due to bad weather are having their party today 11 Jan, not many businesses would re-decorate the room and make a Xmas dinner with all the trimmings. Well done Heather and Roz.
The Queen Victoria is modest and unprepossessing. Forget that! The staff are a delight and the home-cooked meals are incredible value for money. Thursday pensioners' lunch, main course: £3.50. ||Also the adjacent car park is capacious and handy.
We went for the steak night on a wet Sunday night. Very good sirloin with lots of sides. Very friendly landlady with lots of local information. Plain but homely bar. A local business well worth supporting.
Visiting friends locally decided to go out to eat evening meal, most places closed for food went in here, land lady very friendly and helpful, staff and regular locals very accomodating and sociable. Food typical pub grub but cooked very nicely and exceedingly cheep for quality.|Well worth a visit.
