Lovely place for the price, room was very clean with a great bath. We really enjoyed breakfast as it was a serve yourself cooked buffet, so we could eat as much as we wanted. We also had an evening meal there, service was a little bit slow, but the food was very nice. The hotel was also great when we left and realised we had left some things behind in a draw, the lady on the phone went straight away to check and then they were mailed back to us in a timely manner. Would recommend for a cheap couple of nights away.
Staff were friendly and informative on arrival. Room was adequate and clean. Not great water pressure in the shower, and it was quite hot in the room. No way to turn off the heated towel rail in the bathroom as far as I could tell. Otherwise it was all good. Help-yourself breakfast was plentiful. Great way to start the day! Only stayed the one night, so didn't make use of any of the other facilities. The bar looked cosy though, and the grounds were very well kept.
The room was DISGUSTINGLY DIRTY. The hotel adjoins a conference centre type place where there was a function going on. We must've been put in an old bit of the hotel to accommodate those guests as it looked nothing like the pictures. Looks like it hadn't been updated in decades. Could feel every spring of the bed. The carpet was the worst - covered in clumps of hair, marks and sticky in places. Work was going on so the conservatory bit where we had breakfast was all boarded up - no warning of that. Such a shame as the place could be lovely, just that those rooms need gutting. Others were complaining at checkout so it can't just have been us!
Nice hotel in quiet green surroundings. Room was clean & tidy with everything we needed.
Breakfast was delicious with cereal, fruit, Ham/cheese, croissants, poached/fried & scrambled eggs + all of the cooked accompanying foods.
The main hotel (reception rooms) had nice high ceilings with floor to ceiling windows.
Apart from the restaurant/bar & dining rooms there was a room with a pool table, cues & chalk inc a further reception room and another bar.
The receptionist on arrival was pleasant and helpful and part showed us to our room and gave precise directions thereafter.
The only negative was the noisy water system in the off-house wing we were accommodated in.
Also it was extremely hot the two days we stayed (hottest on record so far this year) topping 95 degrees. Fortunately our room was quite shaded. We did not feel the need to ask for a fan but think perhaps the rooms should have them as there is no air con.
So far so good ???? arrived last night ????unfortunately hotel unable to feed us as only 1 chef on and a large party in !!!(a bit naughty as we are paying guests) Despite that staff were friendly.
The room was nice ...towels a bit small ???? but breakfast was good with lots of choices.
The grounds are lovely.
Not sure about the gym !!
The hotel is in need of a bit of a makeover but it’s clean ( which is important)
However the bar is far too expensive!!! 2 pints of ale for £9:60 ????shock horror!!! We had a Taxi into town from Wye Valley cabs £5 a really nice guy who also brought us back.... could not fault the service! The same order of alcohol cost £ 3.90????? In the eagle pub on Broad street !! This pub is without doubt the friendliest and cheapest without compromise as the ale was fabulous.... and the beer and Taxi cost less than the bill for the same order In the hotel!!!!the staff in the Eagle are friendly and the toilets spotless (also important) thank you Ross on Wye ????
Beautiful surroundings and easily found as it's just set off the Ross to Gloucester road. They seem to cater for functions mainly. The meals were well presented but the menu lacked imagination. The staff were helpful and polite. The decor looks tired and in need of a spruce up.
We stayed here last night. We started in room 14 which was well decorated and smart. Few hours later relaxing in our room we noticed a strange noise, we reported it to reception and was advised it was the boiler system in the roof. Reception moved us to room 6 which was very nice but not modern (Downton Abbey style). We had a relaxing quite night. Now breakfast was included in the price of the room. We went down at 8.30 to find what seems to be a help yourself cooked breakfast selection, pastries, Meat and cheese, cereals and breads. We sat down after picking a selection of food as we started to eat and found that most of the food was stale and unpleasant. The food wasn't overcooked just been left out for a while. Both myself and my wife where disappointed as we where looking forward to the locally sauced bacon and sausage but even that was dry. Overall I would recommend staying over night but go out for breakfast.
We got a special with free breakfast and £20 each for dinner. The dining room staff were young and careless. Did not bother to serve us but stood around chatting. Then when we asked for service roll their eyes as though we were a trouble. Room were clean however bed squeaky. Breakfast were sufficient.
